Okay, I know it's not tank related, but it is radio control related ...... and it's cool!!
I think I for another hobby to get into. Basically they are small flying drones with FPV cameras on them racing though a wooden courses.
Kinda reminds you a scene from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

That was absolutely cool! I'm guessing that they have those glow sticks in the rear to make that colored glow? Really neat, and it reminded me of the Star Wars movie as well. Thank you for posting it.

the best part about these quadcopters they are cheap to build since we all have the radios for one. its the cams FPV thats the main cost once you have everything else

Yea they're less expensive than I had thought... the expense comes in when you decide your stock quad isn't cool enough and you start testing different motors, ESCs, controllers.. yay!

Some of the models I've seen that are similar to the RACERS in that first video are in the $400-$600 range, and that's with motors ESCs a fancy flight computer and all the mounts and transmitters for FPV and high def recording.. I'm impressed with the skill it takes to fly at those speeds.

I'm putting together a bunch of parts on HobbyKing, including camera & all electronics for about $300 that'll make a quick little lightweight racer, similar to the one's in that video. The LED bars are on there too!!..
I'm reading LOTS and if you think tanks are in-depth... oh boy. These things are quite literally endlessly programmable, and the electronics are VERY impressive. $30 worth of equipment can actually fly an aircraft by GPS waypoints, has 3 axis gyros and a barometer for altitude.
This is really cool.

Jordan, if you're referring to the racers in the first video, then your looking at the average price of a Tamiya tank. The racers in the video are Porket Racer 240 with the FPV Fly Kit. The Racer in kit form is 150 euro and the camera setup is 379 euro, and still need get goggles or a monitor.
I'm interested to see what you do though, I'd like to get one too if the cost is right.

Heh the fun of Hobbyking is being able to buy brushless motors for $11, Lipo for $7-10, and a plug and play HD sony FPV cam and base station receiver for $100.
The biggest expense would be FatShark goggles but those are wayyyy expensive for what they are.

Plus they knock you on your butt untill you get used to the FPV world. This was a great video

I might put my order in sometime in November for a quad.
I'm learning even MORE about the new technology these things have. A little fun thing called CPPM is a system whereby the receiver sends ALL of it's signals to the electronics board via ONE standard cable. It's crazy. You can hook up 8 channels and a bunch of transmitter switches to these machines to switch between flight modes on the fly (auto-level, follow-horizon, full sport mode, etc)
The particular board I'm looking at doesn't have fancy bits like a barometer or GPS built in but it's expandable. Hell there's a mode for ACTIVE SONAR for navigation. I'm being blown away...
Now to establish / find a local racing club, I think I can hook a few of you in with me if that ever happens

I got my parts from HobbyKing in 3 days. Yay!
I ordered a quality carbon frame from the US so I can't assemble anything till that arrives. Paradoxically I predict several more days for that, hehe, go Hong Kong!

...now if anyone can tell me where I can get a decent set of FPV goggles for a not-stupid price I'd be very happy.
Even the cheapest FatSharks and Flyzones seem to come as 'kits' with another Tx/Rx and all I want are the goggles to plug into a ground station.

Russel I should have added "I want to look cool and not like a total dork", although everything I've read on those is good. Affordable and they WORK.
