PostSubject: Project Bite Me   Mon Mar 16, 2015 11:44 pm

so i just got my hands on a Tamiya Sherman and since i watched fury and saw all the different names and styles of shermans in that movie i decided to give my new/used tank a fitting name. One that is strong, defiant, one that will have my enemies look at my tank and say . . . .what?

I introduce . . . . . Bite Me

I have plans to turn it into an Easy Eight but first i need some cosmetic parts for the wheels and a little repair on the turret rollers

I've tried a bite of Sherman before, it tasted like BBQ chicken. geek

trying to figure out how to make a light weight sandbag for this tank is driving me nuts so i'm going to tea bag this part of the project

yes squar tea bags. I've worked it out that i can make 2 bags per bag. . . ya that doesn't sound weird Rolling Eyes. looks like i need to make 30 per side. Just one more thing to drive me nuts on this build but a steering wheel would have done a better job Laughing

ok back to the bags. I basicly cut a 2"x2" piece from the tea bag, roll it over on itself around a chisel handle i have that's just the right size and glue with superglue just for the quick dry. I guess i should say that the chisel handle is also wrapped with clear tape so the glue is easier to release from it if you are too slow. Glue the one end right across and when that has dried fold the ends over to make a flat bottom. Pull the chisel handle out and roughly fill up the bag til you have 1/4" from the top with all the tea leaves goodness that i hope one would save when cutting up the tea bag. glue right across again and that as far as i got. just dont spill the bag over after you glue it Evil or Very Mad

Hehe I like the legit sand bags. Maybe that'll add a lot of weight?

How about filling the tea bags with low expansion foam that you use for windows. You could shape them before they dry and they would  be real lite.

I would try using plasticine as a sandbag filler, wrap the tea bag around after words and glue in the bottom or any other discrete area. Plasticine could be shaped to give effect of heavy and sagging bags.

Negaduck, is it just me or the tea bags in questions are used ones ?!?!? That's nasty bit of business and a lot of tea drinking.

if i didn't use used tea bags then that would be a waste of good tea

using any expansion foam would still rip the tea bags. refilling them with the tea leaves allows me to shape them to fit in and when i take them out to paint the tank it doesn't matter where i put them back. if it does rip then it looks more like sand and maybe then i can play around with that for battle damage
I guess the weight this really isn't that important but in the end the tea leaves weigh next to nothing anyway

That's looking good, are you painting them to seal them or just using the tea stain .

i guess its time to update this one. making the tea bag sandbags is well its a pain. taking too long  so thanks to dean i have something better and to do 30 of them i spent 3 hours filling them with sand and tying them up. I did try one with the leaves but sand feels better but i may try dying them with tea
