| Good day all.
For those of you that where at the scale event this weekend, I am the one that was pestering you a lot Saturday and ended up picking up the King Tiger. I did come back on Sunday and again picked up the Tauch Panzer III. (since the Sherman was already gone)
For those who where not there my name is Al Marshall and will be joining the club. just a little bit about my self: I have been in the RC hobby in one form or another for 42 years. I fly planes and helicopters and race fast electric boats. I am ex military and was in R.C.E.M.E. core and did a lot of work on tanks. ( a bit of a geek i also play Tanks on line.)
Looking forward to getting involved with RC tanks, the battles. and meeting everyone.

| Hello Al! Good to see some input from someone at the event, we really enjoy the interaction we get hanging out in crowded places Looks like you're heading into a mix of unknown and known territory; it's a huge bonus having R/c experience as tanks tend to have more initial electrical / radio experience required than your typical Plug & Fly model! Congrats on the Tiger. Sherman, what Sherman *coughcough...cough*?? Anyhow welcome again, I was the fellow with the Panther & others, sorta look like this.. _____________________________________________ Tiger I - Panzer II - Panzer III - Panzer IV - Chi Nu Kai - Panther G - KV-1b 756(r) M4A3(76) Sherman - T-34/85 - M3 Grant - SECRET PROJECT

| I will say that you guys had a great display, and i think the perfect spot. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. How could I say no. I just cant wait now to get them converted.
On a sad note though both tanks do not work. the radio on the one will not fire up. the chrystall and several parts are missing on the other. I know that the radio stuff is going to be changed but would be nice to have it running first to check them out. You know where i will be today when the doors open.
Again great job this weekend too bad Sunday was such a bad day.

| Al,
It is actually very typical for the Heng Long radio to not fire up as there is a defect on the battery compartment. If you try inserting a foam on the cover or try joggling the batteries with the cover off you should be able to get it fired up. Not too sure if the shop will be able to help you with that.
Sorry to have miss you on Sunday. Showed up late.

| Hi Al,
Thanks again so much for your interest and we look forward to having you join the club! This is part of the problem with this hobby. Someone goes and buys one of these HL's and it has issues right away and it sours them to the hobby.
Sounds typical for old HL kits which those were. Scott may or may or not be able to help you. I will accelerate the next Clark board order and we will get you moving. In the mean time feel free to ask questions and you may want to start looking at TX or are you going to use one of your flyers? _____________________________________________ "There are things in Russia which are not as they seem..." | Ya,he was able to part together one of them but the other had to go back. let me know when you will be ordering the boards and apples so i can get the cash to you. yes i have a spare radio from my planes. I have an Arrora 9x that i can use.
I am sure i will have plenty of questions when i start the conversion. in the mean time i will scroll threw the forum and see if a lot of them will be answered there first.
yes it would sour a lot of people from this but being in the hobby as long as i have I just take it in stride. Nothing new to me in the way of having problems with faulty equipment right out of the box.Just not normally two items out of two purchased.

| Al, if what is missing is just the radio bits we all have lots of spares lying around. Heng Long stock radio, crystals, etc. Tell Scott to give you a discount and take the tank off him. I am sure he will be more than happy to do it. |

| It was partly because of what i suspect was a bad gimble in the right stick as it had some real bad dead spots. It also had a wicked pull to the left when going strait, had to give it a fair bit of right stick. This may or may not have been part and parcel of the same problem with the radio, not sure. He will call me as soon as he finds out if he can order another one of the Panzer III or a Sherman which was the other one i really wanted and if not i will try your suggestion.
We did get the King Tiger fixed up so I still have one to start the paint job and weathering to get my juices flowing. Just need the Clark Board and apple so I can start the conversion. _____________________________________________ King Tiger, Sherman. All under construction. Now also T34/85 |

| Welcome to the forum AL, (love the user name)I was one of the other guys you met on Saturday, the one from Windsor. Sorry to hear about the tanks, sadly a lot of the time the Heng Longs are held together with nothing but spit and a lot of hot glue out of the box. With a little work they can be solid runners. I have a Panzer 3 that has been running for almost 10 years with little done to it. The members of the club are great and are always willing to lend a helping hand, so don't be afraid to ask. _____________________________________________ HL Panzer III | HL Tiger | HL Jagdpanther | HL Panther | Mato Sherman Hooben Elefant | HL Pershing | HL Bergepanzer IV | Tamiya Leopard 1A | WSN T-34 HL "Golden" Pan-Tiger | M16 Halftrack | HL Panzer IV | Tamiya KV-1 | Tamiya Tiger

| If you need a radio or two, I can donate them no problem. I probably have a dozen spares of these. Let me know. If you're missing anything else, let me know too, I might be able to help. If you come to the next battle day, I can bring them to yo there. Contact me.

| Not completely unusual to see Heng Long tanks bite the bullet right out of the gate but it seems you have had some very unnatural bad luck!! What is there status now? The Sherman on the table they had for sale was one of the newer 2.4ghz so they don't rely on crystals or frequency, but they are terrible drivers as I demonstrated... there is NO proportional steering on those. You either drive straight or turn at full power.. it's ridiculous. Anyhow I'll be happy to tear open some vehicles and give you a basic intro to installing new stuff, where to find parts if ever you want to add stuff, and electrical tricks. I'm basically a tank technician.. I can't design or repair an electrical board but I can sure get one hooked up and working I'll be attending this weekends (?) meet or whenever it's rescheduled, do you know if you're able to as well? _____________________________________________ Tiger I - Panzer II - Panzer III - Panzer IV - Chi Nu Kai - Panther G - KV-1b 756(r) M4A3(76) Sherman - T-34/85 - M3 Grant - SECRET PROJECT

| Stinger: At this point I am good for radio stuff. king Tiger is running and he has reordered another tank to replace the Panzer III. Thank you for the offer.
Knispel: Ya its all just part of the RC hobby. I just take it in stride. Yes i am sure i will have a lot of fun with this.
Strato50: I didn't get to see the demo on the Sherman. Is that a problem with the boards in them and will it get rectified when it gets converted? I will take you up on your offer on the help I am sure. I do have some questions on equipment and such, but i will hold off for now and ask in another topic.
I do plan to come to the next battle. Looks like this Saturday will be a wash out, so will have to see when the next will be.
Thank You everyone for the offers of parts and support. That's what makes the RC hobby so great. _____________________________________________ King Tiger, Sherman. All under construction. Now also T34/85 |

| Yea it's one of the 'features' of the 'new and improved' Heng Long 2.4ghz boards. It's like the assume nobody on this continent has any sense at all and will just buy anything with a fancy new logo. It takes the HL brand back 15 years into pure toy territory... blah!
No idea whether Taigen's 2.4ghz is the same.
...but yes once things get converted all that nonsense goes away & you're back to dealing with familiar R/c components. _____________________________________________ Tiger I - Panzer II - Panzer III - Panzer IV - Chi Nu Kai - Panther G - KV-1b 756(r) M4A3(76) Sherman - T-34/85 - M3 Grant - SECRET PROJECT
