I'm pretty sure this guy has been mentioned on this forum before but check this project out.

Sorta makes me want to trade 2 tanks for one of these printers..

He makes a really nice three piece Sherman transmission cover.

3D printing is on my agenda for sure.  I am going to retire anyday now, and I see my self setting up some time with some 3 d software and immerse myself.  Printer is pretty much useless right now untill you get the 3 D CAD mastered.  HK sell a small 3D print for under $200.  Very small print area, but I think it would be a great way to cut your teeth and learn the technology.

One day we will all have these in our workshops.  Buy the CAD files and print out the parts is they way I see this going. Much like computers, everyone was into the programming, but ultimately it became a consumer good.   You don't need to program to make a computer useful.  Same thing here.  You won't need to  know how to use CAD, all you will need is access to published cad files that you then just use to print parts.

Good points Dan. 10 years ago in college I did some CAD design courses, and I really took to it. I wish my job kept me in that area, but I think one can still figure it out.

The great thing about armor is all the hard edges and lots of reference material. Making hulls, especially early flat-paneled ones, would be easier Smile
