| Hey guys for your IR battles do most of you run full metal tanks, plastic with metal tracks or just all plastic. And what brand have you felt offers the best speed and run for the buck?
thanks for your inputs! |

| For IR battling I like to keep the tanks as light as possible, easier on the gearboxes and batteries last longer. About 90% of my tanks have plastic tracks.

| I kinda have the opposite experience....... After literally ripping a track link indoor on carpet, and another one falling off the sprockets on grass. I do believe though some plastic tracks are better than others, for example Tamiya in general are very good. Some Heng Long tracks are not so great and have weak spots, like the Leo one and also the Pz III/IV. |

| and this is why I wanted the impute lol... my tiger is full metal and T34 is all plastic from what I can see they both do well, could this be solved by getting the plastic one with metal box and tracks lol? _____________________________________________ Tiger PowerDer Tiger ist auf dem losen |

| For me i have metal on some and plastic on other. there isn't a battle day yet that i haven't broke a link or throw a track but i dont let that stop me from getting another hit or 2 on the others plus it helps i got a bag of replacement links for the one that does break _____________________________________________ I do things in the name of science but first hold my beer

| Yea, it's a mixed bag.. it very much depends on the tank. The HL T-34 is fantastic in all-plastic and will hold up well, I just really like tossing in steel gearboxes.
The panzer 3 / 4 really benefit from metal tracks & track tensioners, they're so light it's not an issue.
Tigers / Panthers suffer from metal tracks & wheels but you can really build a very strong tank to handle all that weight. Mine are about 14 pounds each. _____________________________________________ Tiger I - Panzer II - Panzer III - Panzer IV - Chi Nu Kai - Panther G - KV-1b 756(r) M4A3(76) Sherman - T-34/85 - M3 Grant - SECRET PROJECT

| John, you do know that you can equip BB tank with IR equipment to do battle, right ? The cheapest solution for you would be get a IR translator and then mount an apple with emitting capability. I have some DIY ones that does that using standard Heng Long apples.
You don't need to give up BB to do IR battle. The Heng Long/Taigen MFU can do both as long as you add a translator to Tamiya codes. |

| John, what kind of tank do you have now ? Taigen or Heng Long ? IR or BB ? Technically this is all you need to do Tamiya IR battle if you have a Taigen or a Heng Long tank. If they are IR then it is even easier since you would have the base for the IR apple already: " /> On the left is a standard Heng Long IR tower that has been modded. It has a bright red LED on top to indicate hits, and it has a built in IR emitter for shooting. On the right is an earlier version of the translator, MAKO1 hardware with MAKO2 updated firmware on it. The two 5 pin JST plugs goes in between the apple and the Taigen/Heng Long MFU. So if you already have a Heng Long/Taigen IR tank, then you just need to mount the apple, thread the the wire for the hit indicator LED inside the tank. Inside the tank, you need to install the MAKO device between the MFU and all the IR wiring and then you are ready to go. If you don't have an IR tank, it just means that you don't have a spot for the apple to sit on. It will run off wires into the tank (You don't need a base for connectivity), but you will somehow need to mount the apple on the tank, and keep the IR emitter straight. In theory you can duct tape it if you want, as long as it is stable. Silly puddy would be another option, or just hot glue it on (since hot glue will peel off anyway). Let me know what tank you have now (i.e. Heng Long or Taigen, IR or BB), and I can come up with something you can use on the 16th and give this IR thing a go. MikeC. |

| Kyle,
When you open up the T34 loader's hatch, you should see three square holes in the centre and one small and one large round hole on each side of it. That's is the base for the Heng Long IR tower/apple.
As long as my MAKO still works with the new Heng Long which they should, it would be easy to convert the T34 to IR with stock Heng Long parts and some DIYs.
You are welcome to my old MAKOs if they work. I still have couple of them collecting dust here. We can have a go at this when we meet up. |

That's one tank that I don't have ( yet). A few guys have it and like the way they run, very few problems that aware of. Just have to be care swing that long barrel around, can get pretty tight among the village and trees. I've even seen people jam their barrel in ground when going though a ditch. _____________________________________________ HL Panzer III | HL Tiger | HL Jagdpanther | HL Panther | Mato Sherman Hooben Elefant | HL Pershing | HL Bergepanzer IV | Tamiya Leopard 1A | WSN T-34 HL "Golden" Pan-Tiger | M16 Halftrack | HL Panzer IV | Tamiya KV-1 | Tamiya Tiger
