PostSubject: Lipo charger and battery    Tue Apr 26, 2016 9:52 pm

I am looking at a lipo battery and charger from hobbyking. I had a recommendation of a charger to get but almost all are back ordered or only available outside north america.

Is this a good charger to get?

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__95983__Accucell_S60_AC_Charger_US_Plug_.html

For this battery?

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__14976__Turnigy_5000mAh_2S1P_20C_Hardcase_Pack_ROAR_APPROVED_US_Warehouse_.html

I know little about the batteries and chargers. Any suggestions. Or is this a good pairing? Having a battery that lasts hours would be great. I do understand that care is needed with lipo.

kwa,

We are consider International in HobbyKing warehouse, not the USA ones. Also, this charger only comes with the XT connector and the battery uses 4mm bullet so you will need to get a adapter. To complicate things a little bit more, all the Heng Long uses Tamiya connectors.......

If we are international then that changes things a bit.  I can go for the charger Dean recommended but have to find a different battery. I thought the site said canada ships from the west goast warehouse.

Sorry kwa, I think we can order from USA and International warehouse. You just can't mix them in the same order. I usually just order from the International one.

as long as you dont buy lipos from hobbyking shipping shouldn't be that bad. they up the shipping cost for lipos because it may "catch fire" during delivery so they mark it on the delivery order what it is and then UPS adds there fee

I was looking at the hobbyking site and after shipping and exchange and lipo fee a $21 battery turns into an easy $75.

My message got cut off.

Amazon has a venom battery for $56 plus tax free shipping.

Venom 20C 2S 5000mAh 7.4 Hard Case LiPO Battery with Universal Plug System https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B000VUF3O2/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_3Ayixb72BEPK8

Is this a good deal for a decent battery?

https://www.amazon.ca/Rage-RC-NM5000-7FT-5000mAh-Battery/dp/B00PDQU89E/ref=sr_1_3?s=toys&ie=UTF8&qid=1461849421&sr=1-3&keywords=5000+nimh

100x better, LiPo doesn't really suit a tank. We don't need their advantages, plus they're more dangerous.

LiPo is lighter and delivers fast hard AMPS, and tanks with our gearboxes don't need that.. we need consistent voltage. And NiMH is 10x easier to charge and has no charge memory.

Do you actually get 8.4v from this ? Any issue with over voltage on the Clark board ? I know that I had some issue with freshly charged 2S lipo and have kill a board because of that (well at least that's what Clark and I think). Freshly charged 2S lipo can get up to 8.4v as well.

I personally found lipo lasts much longer in actual usage than NiMH, but I am always using cheap NiMHs so I can't really say how good they are if they are legit.

The other time I need lipo is actually in the packaging. I can get a much smaller form factor with the same capacity.

Oh, crap that is a 7 cell. DONT BUY THAT... not good for our tanks. I didn't notice that I'm sorry.. I have the 6 cell versions.

Mathematically 5000mah will give you the exact same run time no matter what type of battery... 1 AMP of power should last 5 hours. Now if the NiMH cells are crap, well, maybe not Razz

I just bought the ones that Dean and Mike recommended. 2 batteries, 1 charger, a safe box for charging, and % pair Tamiya connectors with shipping for $148.
