Unfortunately that is pretty typical for a new release Tamiya tanks. Had I shipped it to Chris it would have been closer to a $1000 CAD.

The JS-2 when it first came out was close to $2000 CAD.

Looks like Tamiya's been watching the 1/16 market. New features in the M551:

- Full lighting control - headlight, spot light and brake light
- 360 servo control turret rotation
- Magnet (!!!) cover to access LCD panel on the MFU
- Battery compartment (!!!)
- Automatic barrel elevation when rotating over engine deck
- Servo recoil !!!!
- Volume adjustable from radio

Interesting how it doesn't show anything for TBU & IR Battles... Is there even the option for it?

IR battle is a Hop-up option they always have it, although this one does not show where the IR emitter would be. The barrel is too thick for the usual IR emitter clip. Will have to read the manual in more details:

In the one picture above it shows a red light to the left and lower than the barrel. Under the main white light. Is that where the emitter is supposed to go?

No that's the coax MG. I actually did a walkthru on the M551 at Oshawa and talked to the guy a bit about it. It was hidden next to the main stage behind some bushes.

Actually. It probably is the same as their current designs. Separate external IR mount on the cannon barrel.
I did not know that the figure and cupola were removable, hence why I did not realize the TBU mount was there...

Finally went thru the manual. The barrel  is too thick for their usual barrel mount IR emitter. So the gun sight on the right side of the mantlet has a place for a permanent emitter location.

It is obvious that they have learn a thing or two from the Heng Longs and Taigens of the 1/16 market, and also the after market boards like Clark and IBU etc. Servo elevation and servo recoil from Tamiya ? The 360 rotation turns out to be DC motor driven still. Also you can now turn on/off engine sound. The question is whether you need engine sound before the tank will drive, but most likely.

Does it specify if the Sheridan gets hit like a light tank? (3 hits).

The motor mount is actually SHCD, but I find the Tamiya Philips are pretty good actually. What I don't like is the two nylon gears in the middle of the brass and metal gearset............

I would guess that's their idea of a sheer pin. It'll break before something bigger and more expensive does, like an entire sprocket or track.

Annoying if it ALWAYS breaks though..! Razz

Some pics of the new Tamiya Sheridan. Tamiya servo recoil and servo elevation. The three black arrows points to the magnet attached point for the turret. Red and white wires is for the IR emitter, the black/red out of the barrel is the flash (no more Tamiya flash unit anymore) the other Black/red on the top is the coax MG. of course two normal servo connection.

New Tamiya Tank - Page 2 Dscn2624

Three magnet attach point on the upper. Also see the TBU mount. The figure included actually attaches to the TBU mount base plate when you are not battling. Very nice feature.

New Tamiya Tank - Page 2 Dscn2623

Four more magnet mounting point. The side panel comes off for battery, and the rear deck comes off to access the new all in one DMD unit.

The new all in one DMD unit. Nice and skinny. Has LCD display to adjust all settings. You basically control everything from here, so no need to open up the tank anymore. Battery slides in off the side panel (see previous post).

New Tamiya Tank - Page 2 Dscn2626

Because of the new skinny DMD, the speaker box is 2/3 off the lower ! The other 1/3 space is for the gearbox.
