Question.. I was thinking for a worn out white-washed look, to apply spray-on white then wipe with lacquer thinner to wear it down for a severely beaten look... will the thinner eat through 3 clear coats and mess up my primer?? Considering everything is nice and cured for a day or 2.

you might have to reprime but see how the waterbased white wash works on it first if it works get this for your clear coat Glen told me about it and Tim told me about it i never use anything else now

I put on the white acrylic by hand in a messing fashion, then used a stiff wet brush and cloth to wear it away and make the detail. I tried to make the former-owner's markings still visible under the white wash!!

Do still have your Heng Long guts from your other tanks you can put in it for now, until you get your SLU?
Just to see it rolling.

Hah! You caught me! I asked Yellowshaker for a few tips the other day actually. I like what he does for winter armor.

Just applied the final matte sealer coat, I had to re-do the upper hull but I'm once again happy! I'll break out the fancy digital camera when I wake up / after it's cured.

Thanks guys Smile

Careful buying this stuff.

There is the clear version, which is what we want and a blue tint version. Trouble is, the cans are identical, except for some fine print at the bottom of the can, make sure it says "Clear"

Don't ask me how I know Embarassed

Small print like a car lease?

I sprayed a Matte finish but this Frosted Glass looks like a better coating .

Knispel, you see the "NET WT" on the bottom of the can? It's about that size, but written sideways, buried around the back of the can next to all the warning & hazard labels..

The difference between the 'shades' is negligible, they're actually ALL green cans...

Well Glen & Greg, in the meantime I've already done the KV-2 in regular Testor's matte clear coat. Do you have any examples of the differences in finish between that and the frosted glass?

Anyhoo, since I can't drive this tank around yet, I'm coming up with wacky contraptions for it! Presenting, the polystyrene gearbox grease splash guard, or the technical name, GearingGrossplattenguurden!

Strato's KV-2 Build - Page 2 Photo139

Its a 2mm sheet of stock styrene plastic, exactly 1 inch wide, 2 inches high at the 90-degree bend, then the rest is 4-5 inches depending on how big your hull is!

Its held down by a plastic pin in front, and the plastic spring tension holds it in at the back.

It lives!

With a new Clark TK22 Russian board giving it life, my KV-2 finally is under its own power. I like the Clark board, its pretty simple, and would have been even easier to install had I a normal HL set up.

It was tricky with the Asiatam recoil & elevation but I got it in a few hours...

Driving took some getting used to, its the same setup as the SLU, but I had to add -70% exponential control on the steering just to make it turn properly..

The SLU drives better hands down. If youre going full speed forward, and turn TOO tightly, it goes into pivot mode. I dont think I can program that out... you just have to drive carefully. The SLU only pivots when you go left / right first, THEN forward / backward... I like that better.

enjoy.

Looks good, I like the way the turret shakes when it fires. It going to be scary on the battlefield.

I still think its weird that the Clark system allows you drive around without engine start up. confused I wonder if there is away to fix it.

But I thought you had a SLU lined up for this beast?
Doesn't matter what you put in it my Elefant is going to put holes thought it! Twisted Evil

I did, Canada Post lost it >< It was in the mail for less than 24 hours, tracking showed it as "delivered" the next morning.. never was. Sigh Sad

Heh yea, the tracks hanging on the turret shake all over when it fires. I like that too.

Theres an option to program the pivot mode out of the tank altogether, as soon as I get a sensor I'll try to do that. I dont think a KV could pivot anyway.. it's just a pain when Im driving along at high speed and instinctively want to make a hard turn, and it enters pivot mode... >< I need a TBU or DBU first, I'm looking for a cheap one.

It came with all the wires a HL usually has, I didnt need them all but it was nice to have spare connectors and such, for lengthening cables. The KV power switch is on the rear plate, since everything else is solid metal.. and the wires have to run between & past the gearbox's.. they arent long enough.. heh thats my next task... currently have to open the tank to turn it off / on.

Driving silent is also weird. Its ready to roll as soon as it has power, must be careful with the radio!

That sucks! No
Did the Canada Post do anything about it?

When I'm expecting a package I always get paranoid that they will delivery to one of neighbours instead or they might leave it on the front step and falls in the brushes. pale

Tim got Canada Post to pay out insurance so everythings good. I was sorta pissed, I wanted an SLU in this tank still.

I might try hooking up the SLU apple to the clark, we'll see.

If you can get the SLU apple to work that would be great.

I've been thinking of getting a Clark for my Jadgpanther.

I talked to Hulu about it, seems impractical, and I'd have to mutilate a damned good SLU apple.

My interest in doing so was to save $50 (for DBC unit) or $100 for a Tamiya unit... why arent these cheaper?? Also I like the fairness and fun style of battle of the club, we dont worry about angle defense, fan shots, all that other crap.. If I get a DBU or TBU, I'll mod it so it's 360 degrees Wink

Also I like the fairness and fun style of battle of the club, we dont worry about angle defense, fan shots, all that other crap..)

.....or parking on a slope, or tracked vehicles that can keep up with nitro racer; I agree, I would prefer we remain in the present mode, too.

It is too bad CP lost the electronics, this is the sort of story that keeps me from being complacent when ordering or shipping stuff.

Took the KV-2 out for a lightly-snowed test drive. There was barely 1mm of power, it was blowing around.. still made some track marks and a little stuck, it looked scale.

The issue I had with the HL plastic tracks & asiatam metal sprockets is worse than I imagine. In any sort of turning situation, even on pavement, the tracks bind up (because they are too "tight" around the sprocket, ie the sprocket teeth are spaced too far), and slip off, and I either go in a straight line with 1 motor stopped and the other moving.. it it just skips as I drive, making the tank jerk up and down constantly..

So, I bit the bullet and ordered some "top of the line" asiatam metal tracks. Closed pin, they're really nice. The guys at WelshDragon models are very accommodating and let me attach the tracks to my order of a functional drivers hatch, since it hadn't shipped yet. ETA is.. get this.. WEDNESDAY...

The welsh guys are awesome.
