The future of the Fort Erie Field needs to be decided, I have discussed this with Wayne at some length today and we felt that we should post this on the Forum.
What needs to be decided is, if someone else is willing and able to step in and run the operation, or if it should be disbanded.
I have reached the point where I really don’t want to continue in my role at the club. Wayne has told me he is in a similar position.
To be clear (Glen, Wayne and Doug still want to be part of the club but we have some personal handicaps that are severely limiting our ability to keep the field ready for "battle")
We also have lost some participation to the other fields that are able to offer more facilities, this is understandable as they are being run by people who are more willing, and able, to spend more time and effort on them.
The challenge is that we don’t appear to have local, younger, enthusiastic people that can commit to consistently doing what is needed to keep things going.
I also have in mind that if we cannot find a way to keep things running and were to shut the Fort Erie Field down, I would rather do it before people pay 2019 Black Creek dues.
For consideration; the role of operating the Fort Erie Field involves;
- Schedule Planning including coordination with the other fields and posting notices on the forum
- Weather, watching forecasts and deciding if the meet is a “go” or cancellation
- Being the contact with the Black Creek people, dealing with inquiries, requests, problems and informing them of the meet schedule
- Collecting dues and membership applications, making sure the Black Creek people get them and chasing people at meets to make sure they pay
- Key and Trailer Crank, keep these safe and accessible, make sure they get to the meet, this means the person doing this must attend every meet, or make arrangements to have someone take them there
- Field Maintenance, check the field and cut the grass routinely between meets to make sure the grass does not get too long
- Field Preparation, field must get cut short enough and be clear of excessive clippings on the Thurs. or Fri. before the meet to make sure the surface is good for tank operations
