Has anyone used a BEC with the control boards we use? Clark, IBU, Elmod, etc. I am considering a couple additions and changes for my latest build. Independent barrel elevation and lights to start. Understood that the sound functions would not work anymore. Besides that and the redundant controls, are there any other cons?
These are a couple I have used on other non- tank projects

Hey Chris,
I never actually understand why you would need something like this. For example, if you want power to LED or servo control outside of the "ESC" (i.e. in our case Clark/IBU/Elmod etc) I usually just take it from the receiver which gives you up to 5v for servo control and any LED lighting you would want without going thru the control board.
As long as there is power to the receiver you are good to go. Of course this is completely independent of the control board.
Does this make sense or am I missing something here ?

BEC are used to prevent "Brown outs" caused by excessive current draw via the receiver (if solely powered by an attached ESC).
Many RC racers use a capacitor directly connected to their receiver to "store" energy and provide it when the current draw is too high during a short timeframe. "A Poor man's BEC"

In both parts of the vid, the truck was only given command to drive straight. The ESC in the truck has an on board BEC but is not sufficent to prevent the amp draw of the motor to not interfere with the high torque servo. The lights are all LED's but the condition is even worse when they are on.
