| That's cool. Will be interesting to see it totally resurrected. Considering how many of the very old Tamiya Shermans you see still on Ebay there must be some threads on forums on how to get them running to modern standards. Speaking of resurrections my late version Tiger is totally resurrected after it's upside down equivalent of a 300 foot drop and running on my good IBU with everything working but the recoil that never works on Taigens . It really is amazing how little damage happened and how easy it was to fix |

| I’ll have to research that. It would be really great to get thing updated and battling against all the Sherman’s.
When I ran it on the floor I was surprised to see how fast it moved after being used to the plodding KT.
Ahh that tough German armour, it is like a timex! |

| Most of the gen 1 Tamiya's are the single motor, clutch steer system. 2nd Gen are twin motors. and the 3rd gen are the twin motors with the black plastic housings on them. |

| Interesting!
So mine’s a dual motor dual clutch...I must say hearing that drivetrain run after 20+ years of it sitting in a box after running in mud made my heart skip a beat...and appreciate the high quality of Tamiya products.
Now if they can fab up some actual hatch handles and not just blobs of plastic! |

| Except I don't believe that Tamiya ever made a twin motor, dual clutch system. My guess it that it is a well made kit bashed version. The non-bullet connectors on the motors is the 2nd clue... |

| A picture of the front cover of instructions: kit # RT1601 and I think printed 7511. This thing is way older than Ren and possibly almost older than a few here. |

Mitch, There is two clutches in theory but this is not a dual clutch. The fact that you have two drive motors vs single one does not change the clutch which is control by one servo. All it means is that it is driven by two motors vs a single motor. There is not two clutch control, right ? It is still just a single lever controlled by the direction servo. This is the picture of the single motor version. Yours won't be any different than this, just when you drive it is driven by two motors vs one. The clutch when engaged will stop one or the other motors to turn. Otherwise both motor will drive straight. |

| Hey Mike,
Just out of curiosity, what is the history of the tank in your image?

| It is a Leo1A4 even though the tracks looks like it is a Sherman. I can't remember which is which, but I have owned multiple Leo 1A4's as it is one of my favorite tank. This is either from Dean, or I have build one for Lester (another club member) which subsequently sold it to Greg and I ended up buying it from his estate (Dean and Les will have to confirm this as I don't really remember).
Early Tamiya single motor clutch drive system. |

| Ahh, looks like my Sherman tracks but different drive configuration...did the tracks come assembled out of the box, or did you have to piece them together like I had to? |

| No zinc tracks that came assembled and I probably couldn't take them apart if I wanted to. The clutch lever should be the same, resting position means both gears (motors in your case) would work, and pull one way would stop/clutch one side and the other way would stop/clutch the other track to turn. |

| I ended up making a jig to start the track pins into the endconnecter otherwise the chamfer on the pins would make them go into the endconnector askew and then it was really tough to straighten them out. |

| So true with Tamiya. It's like how they show an example of the wiring fitting perfectly into the tiny amount space of space available on tanks like the JPIV or Pershing but then they forget that putting in their battle system totally throws a wrench into the whole mess. Of course I'm having my own WTH time with the Clark board. I thought I would be messed up where there was soldering involved but I am totally lost at sea. Not sure if I'm even looking at the right manual as all I can find is the TK40 one on the Clark site. |
