So I was running the M41 through my field when I heard an aweful grinding noise. Took it in, unscrewed it and it looks like the gears are loose on the left motor. I don't know how to solder anything and I'm afraid to pull everything apart (I'm gonna have to for the SLU installation) Can the gearbox be tightened? Also can anyone teach me how to solder or where to find one lol.

Are you able to post a picture of the gears?
I got my soldering iron at Princess Auto last month, I think it was like $12. I just learn from Youtube videos and bugging Airbrushler with questions, or I get him to do it.

They look fine but the ones on the left move side to side... which means the gear attached to the sprocket rolls freely while the others run with the motor.

Do you mean the gear slides along the axis it's on?

Lol in Captain's words: Phil - RC TANK WARS. I was thinking that too... would a 480 motor be realistic for a Bulldog?

TAMIYA !!! JUST BUY A TAMIYA DAMIT !!!..[i]Love Panther G ....
I may have a spare sold iron , I will take a look.
So do you say the gear spins free and the motor does not spin ,when you spin the gear ? So you need a new motor, it sounds like ? Or you may be able to tap the gear back on to the drive shaft of the motor, if the motor is OK. The 480 motors are nice but if you have stock gear boxes you may tare them up ? Capt.
ho ya PHIL R/C TANK WARS ...DAMIT.....

oh i don't do soldering like that guy in the film he talks about tinning but looks like you waste more solder than anything..lol i use Flux paste i put some on the wire and the solder just gets sucked right onto the wire you don't have the heat on it as much as that guy in the video i think the amount of time he leaves that iron on there would do damge to a board and i use 30watts

Please Remember people solder fumes are Real BAD for you, Have a fan to blow the smoke away, dont hang over what you are working on and get a face full of fumes..LEAD !!!! I have seem a few good people get the shakes from soildering over the years and it dont take much.
Flux past can rot some wires, in time.
Not Joking.

I'm not working tomorrow, gonna go to PA with my dad and pick up an solder iron. Gonna need one when I get a HE tank anyways to wire all the HL electronics.
With the 480s I was going to get steel gearboxes. I don't know if 3:1 are realistic for the Bulldog.
Yes the motor works, but the gear attached to the axle that the sprocket is screwed too isn't making contact with the rest of the gears. I'll put apart the tank tomorrow and see if there is something I can tighten.

Not yet. I'm gonna fix everything when my transmitter from HobbyKing comes in while I hook up the SLU. Thanks to Captain for the soldering iron
