So here are some pics
https://s1295.photobucket.com/user/ImmortalHobbies/library/?sort=3&page=1
I put in charged batteries and took this one for a spin. As it is all plastic the tracks slide under it and have basicly no traction or very little, at least on pavement. The Electronics are RX18 junk and I use the term liberally here. They upgraded it to 2.4ghz but the lurch is still there and all the other usual sounds. The engine sound is not the one you are used to hearing but it is still terrible. Turret moves nice and the gun does look good enough but there will be a bit of filling needed on the extraction chamber.
As you can see in the reference photo with the KT it is big, The inside has room and then some.
I am so glad I will have the Walterson gear boxes for this as the three pinions will make setting this tank up a charm.
Metal gearboxes but pot metal and they make the Leo slow very very slow.
I quite like the tank,  for the money there will be lots of value in this. Especially to people that tend to build or modify their equipment.
I bet the metal tracks will be available from Mato very shortly. I think this tank will be popular

My very first thought was, wow, the paint looks really nice out of the box.

There was a youtube video of a 'HL LEO II" claiming to only have the black steel gears in it, just RIPPING around at good speed... speed 400s I guess but the author wasn't clear at all Sad

Black gears would be ideal but you would have to move to the 400 motors.

I've been spending a lot of time lately looking at motor options. I've run into some problems, hehe, mainly being that most hobby-type retailers have completely ditched our beloved brushed motors for brushless.

Other problems include finding out exactly WHAT people carry as far as specs go. On a lighter tank I've discovered I want what is basically the equivalent to a Speed 400 6v. The same can motor rated for 7.2v will give more torque but less RPM. Great for standard gears but I need RPM for those 4:1 boxes Very Happy

I'm going to create a bigger thread on RCU asking more about motors probably later tonight. I have 3 different motors in my tanks and have no idea which is what (besides the black 480s!)

Curtis, do you have the specs for the motors you stock?

I will have all the specs for you tommorow. Fyi the 400 motors I carry are available in 6v as well as the 7.2, the 6v will give a higher rpm but you will also put some extra wear and tear on them.

that is not black gears, that has to be Nylon or he wrote over the sound file. More than likely Tamiyas Nylon. I would think this is easily replicated, Speed is not the issue the sound is, that had to be one of the quitest gear sets I have heard

well so happens I have a set of black steel long shaft gears and 400 motors.
I loaded the motors and gearboxes into my Leopard, battery is not a factor here and I am using an RX18 2.4ghz. No other modifications were done to the leopard.
I calculate the scale speed of the Black Steel Gears and 400 Motors to be 39.78 mph over a distance of 90 feet so this should be reasonably accurate. this was flat pavement with no obstructions.
Max speed of the Leopard 2A6 according to a couple sites is 45 mph on Wiki and 42 mph on Today's Army.
Needless to say I think I have found a good gearbox for the Leopard 2 at $49.00 a set, I am pretty confident that adding a Clark board and a Walterson Gearbox you will be able to tweak right into the 44 to 45 mph zone on a scale speed.

Hey Curtis just a couple questions Razz How big is the drive sprocket compared to other tanks? And what sort of 400s are you using?

Strato
The entire gear box is the exact same as stock, Matter of fact I pulled the stock pinion off the gears that came with the tank and pushed it onto the 2.3mm shaft from the 400 motors. so basicly it is a standard steel gear box ( Note they are long shaft not the short Tiger ones ) with 4 gear wheels on it.
The steel gears are faster than stock HL and the extra rpm from the 400 motors is all you really need.
The motors are the Promaxx 7.2v speed 400 ones I carry.

It is pretty close, remember too that this is on pavement and an all plastic leopard. Get some weight on it and that is where you may need to start tweaking
