Good afternoon fellow tankers. Below is the summary of the discussions we had in our end of season Board meeting. We looked at a variety of ideas and suggestion from this season and for the 2014 season.
Summary:
1.) Set 2014 Battle Schedule
April 12th
May 17th
June 14th
July 12th
Aug 9th
Sept 13th
Oct 14th
November 1st
In light of this years end of season, untimely rain, we have contingency dates set for Oct. and Nov. for an indoor venue. If we need to move it indoors, the dates will be Oct. 18th and Nov. 8th. We will make every effort to keep the battles outdoors, but at least we now have options. These dates will be booked with the Hall.
We are currently looking at two winter dates and should have answers later this week.
2.) End of season get together
We propose an end of season get together : Brunch and a Show and Tell. Dean has graciously offered to host the get together in Kitchener. The Kitchener area was proposed, as it is more central to everyone. The date is Dec. 7th at 2 pm in Kitchener. We will post a separate thread to gauge the interest. It would be nice if we all got together to show off what we are working on and to get together, one last time for this year. I hope everyone shows up.
3.) Club dues
We reviewed the thought of increasing club dues to $50.00 as was suggested by several members. Trying to keep this to a minimum, so entry to the club is affordable to all, we decided against the hike to $50.00 but a new fee of $25.00 was approved. The fee to the community currently remains the same at $20.00, so $5.00 will go to the clubs coffers. If the community center does decide to raise their fee, we should have it covered. Club dues are by calendar year, so your current membership runs out in January.
4.) Fundraising
We would be interested in comments or suggestions of fundraising opportunities for the club. One suggestions was a 2013 CD of these years battle pics. The pics would include larger format pictures of what you have already seen on the web site plus a lot more pics of each of the tanks, as over 250 pictures are taken at each battle with only about 60-70 posted. The cost of the CD would be around $10.00 delivered to your door. If there is enough interest, it can be done. It's a lot of work to do, so we will need to gauge the interest first.
5.) Field updates
We discussed updates to the field for 2014. Areas to be modified will be the unused section that is furthest away from the community center. (side facing the empty field) That side is pretty much under developed and there will be consideration given to putting in more hills and some roadways. The major stumbling block for field improvements is the lack of help. This past season we had posted several work days and no one showed up for them. For the 2014 year, we will post work days and if there is no offer for assistance, the day will be cancelled. It was agreed, that too much is being done by too few people. In short, we are asking for help in the hope we get it.
It was proposed that we have a work day coupled with a work shop in the afternoon for putting on a demonstration. ie: how to rust/mud weather tracks
6.) Member involvement
As mention above, member involvement in the running of the club and maintenance of the field still is a problem. Club survival should never hinge on one or two people. We will be trying to do more advertising locally (Niagara area) through, Kijiji, Shoppers news and participation local shows in order to drum up some new members, with the hope that more people will eventually get involved in operations. We are definitely interested in anyone who wishes to help with running the club right now. You don't need to be local to help. We could use someone who could be in charge of advertising right now, to take some of the burden of the few who are doing it. Step up if you feel you wish to help out. We also need members to show up on time to help set up and take down on battle days. Keep this in mind as we head into 2014
7.) Frontal Invincibility for Tank Destroyers / Receiver blocking
It's quite evident that we don't see tank destroyers on the field because of the lack of turret and limited mobility. It is noted that in real battles tank destroyers sat back and did their job from a distance and could handle considerable frontal shots because of their increased frontal armour. To simulate this, we have approved blocking of the receiver on the front of the tank only. This can constitute a strip of electrical tape 3/4" wide-ish blocking the front of the receiver. This is approved for all tank destroyers of the turret-less type only.
However, your receiver must be accessible for the remainder of the 360 degrees. It cannot be blocked or hidden by anything else on your tank. This goes for all tanks. If you do currently have an obstruction, we ask that it can be removed from the tank for the battle, to be fair to everyone.
Your receiver should be able to be viewed in all directions. Please do not bury your red hit LED's in your tanks as they cannot be seen during outdoor battles. The receiver should not be buried into the tank as that also creates an unfair advantage.
We don't want to make a piles of rules on this, so please just try to be fair. Please don't show up with a modification to your tank that pushes the edge, ask first to prevent any hard feelings.
8.) Food at our events - Pot Luck
We want to thank all the people who brought food out to our battle days this past summer as it was awesome and enjoyed by all. (If you attended, you know who I'm talking about here). It was agreed that we would like to continue our POT LUCK style of food at these events and we ask ALL members to make sure they pitch in for this, as don't want to burden any one person(s) to keep it going. So prior to the battles days, please ask what it is, that you can bring, to have everyone share in the day.
9.) Forum / Web Site Upgrades
Forum: Look into having a "thank you" button that can be attached to thread posters so that people can be thanked for making contributions. Look at awards and contests for the winter season.
Web site: - Improve the video section of the site to include more Can AM Battles. - A total revamp of the video section is planned over the next few months.
- For sale section. A items for sale section will be added shortly which will include an Cam AM shirts and any other promotional items we may have.
- Create TeamSpeak server viewer on the main page. Set up Can Am TeamSpeak Channel (done)
10.) Goals for 2014
We looked at several items that may be coming up for 2014 that we would like to get accomplished. Here is a list of what was discussed.
- Create formal policies and procedures for the club - so that anyone who may be running the club can keep it consistent.
- Get more people involved through local marketing
- Create more roads on the other side of the river. Get the majority, if not all the roads finished off.
- Refresh some of the existing buildings / make new buildings as needed. Take on volunteers to make new structures.
- Look into attending local indoor/outdoor events to promote the club (we need volunteers to help)
- create workday/work shops for the summer months.
Please read over the above discussion and if you have any comments, please don't hesitate to make constructive suggestions.
Thanks
Stinger
