| Well, I will be getting the new Taigen Tiger I that Freakydudw had at the March 23 Indoor Meet. The one that has all my finger prints on it Not another Tiger But, this is an Early version I am now looking for a camo pattern/unit markings; I have a few under consideration Like my Abt 506 Taigen Late Version, this will have 3:1's, 400 motors and IR conversion. We are looking to do the "exchange" at the next meet; another reason to look forward to April 20th _____________________________________________ "Luck favours the prepared!."

| I want them all, my real favorite is a tank in the Afrika Corps with 2 subtle shades of desert yellow as the camo. I am sure Glen will make an awesome Tiger regardless of what he models. |

Well, historically, it appears that is not too far off the mark. Rivet counting not withstanding, it appears that as it comes out of the box the Taigen Tiger I, Early, is a March production due to the main visual features it has, please refer to the chart I have made up. This puts it solidly in the "yellow" phase, as noted by the grey and yellow portions on the chart, yellow came in in Feb. 1943. The numbers in the chart are when units in the east took deliveries of Tiger I's. There were March shipments and May shipments. Now it depends on the delivery time, did they get to the unit in the month they were made, or was there some time involved? If shipping was quick, we are looking at 2nd SS Das Reich and Abt 503 If shipping lagged, we would be looking at SS Leibstandarte, Totenkopf, Abt 502, Abt 503, Abt 505 In my copy of "Tiger I on the Eastern Front" many of the pictures show the tanks in the old B&W's as one colour, which I used to think was grey , in fact, given the timeline, it had to be yellow. (At least my Taigen Tiger I, Late in Abt 506 markings is right there in the right time with the 45 delivered in Aug. 1943) Yes, I do have a severe tank illness _____________________________________________ "Luck favours the prepared!."

| Ok so who would have made the call to give them a spring time colour make over to yellow? Did this sort of thing come from hitler himself? |

| As far as painting in the field, I am not sure but from what I have read, I suspect it was at the discretion of the unit, based on all the various colour schemes of the different Abt.'s. The change to yellow at the factory occured in mid-Feb. 1943. I am not sure where this came from. Possibly, yellow was thought to be the best base for most of the areas they were operating in, now I want to check that out I know some Grossdeutschland Tigers in mid 1943, in Russia, were just left yellow without overspray; if I follow that pattern (and I might), Strato's comment of a yellow tiger will be right on the mark. - Strato50 wrote:

| A "yellow" Tiger. Grossdeutschland, Kharkov, Russia, March 1943; Colour plate and historic B&W's of the same Tiger. They removed the Feifels (nice for the Taigen quick release upper hull, no hoses) but it has the smoke launchers aqnd the spare track on the front of the hull of the early version. Both from "Tiger I On The Eastern Front" by Jean Restayn, I recommend this book to any Tiger enthusiast. _____________________________________________ "Luck favours the prepared!."

| I think these were from the 2 received by Das Reich in Dec. 1942 and the 8 in Jan. 1943. These were made during the "grey phase". It appears they received the green and yellow over spray, likely keeping it until painted in a yeallow, with brown and/or green over spray before Kursk, in July. Sourced from the same book as the colour drawing. The large Feiflels on the early Taigen Tiger I are too big for this time period, but since I am not Quite a rivet counter, I can live with that to use this paint scheme. _____________________________________________ "Luck favours the prepared!."

| I have attached a picture from "Tiger I On The Eastern Front", showing a Tiger I of 8./SS Panzer Regiment 2. The artist's colour drawing shows it as grey with yellow, something like "TIKI". however, a bit different. Interpreting colour from the old photos is difficult but I think I see 3 colours there; perhaps grey, with green and some yellow? If this is correct, it is more confirmation of the colour drawing in my earlier post. _____________________________________________ "Luck favours the prepared!."
