What did you use to set the rust? Just a mat varnish?

yep just the frosted clear we use to clear the tanks just sprayed some in a tuna can and dipped the brush in the clear to pick up the rust to apply

they have it at Canadian tire you have to read on the side to make sure it's the clear they have another that has a hint of green in it

Ok. Great. Thank you. I will give it a try. That's probably why i couldn't match the effect on the T34.

Greg, do you use this as a flat coat or a sealant ? Does it chemically melt anything ?

I've used that too and it's not bad, it adds a matte finish.

I thinkkkkk I've had it bubble on me a tiny bit but I cannot be sure.

i use it on my whole tanks to seal it but this tank was already done with the clear coat before.  To add the rust i sprayed some of the clear into a small container i dipped my brush in it to wet the brush and then dipped it into the rust and then applied it to the tank

Greg so you use this as the flat finishing coat after everything is done ? It will be a lot cheaper than buying clear flat sprays from Tamiya or Testor.

I just went out and got some.  Sprayed  it on a cut out battery box piece and so far no adverse effects on the plastic at all. Will see again in a couple hours.  I would say though i would think it would have done something by now if it was going to since it is dry

I am not worry about unfinished plastic. More worry about decals and also acrylic painted surfaces. Will give it a try on something I don't care much for and see what happens.

well have 2 coats on the tank and it did not bother the paint or decals. Just did not give me the effect that i was thinking it would. Beginner here thought it was going to give me that dusty look. at this point it still looks the same

I only expected it to give a flat coat overall. If you want dusty look you might want to use Buff diluted on air brush or Testor has a spray can called Smoke. If you are not good at weathering like I do, Tamiya's paint master kits are great. You do heave to seal it after you are done, with the aforementioned frost window spray.

Ok dumb questions. What is buff and how do you get that dusty gray look like on the tank in this post.

Ok great.  Dean you can chime in any time. LOL. I need to match the weathering on the T34 I bought and want the same effect on the King Tiger
