Some more repair ramblings;



The Vernier Calliper is a handy measuring tool





Measuring the height of an original post. The new one has to be the same height if the hull top and bottom are to fit together properly.



Arrow shaft fits the outside of the post, cut the post off, leaving the bottom half to use as a locator and to glue the arrow shaft to. This is the outer shaft and must be shorter than the required height of the post.



Choose and arrow shaft that will fit the recess in the upper hull post, cut a piece to a length that will make the new post up to the height of the original post.






Glue the inner tubing into the outer shaft, fill with JB Weld and drill a pilot hole in the JB Weld when it has set, the screw will cut new threads in the JB Weld. It is quite strong, likely tougher then the original.

Lots of broken things in this one.

The three little posts that hold the turret traverse unit were done for.

I could not repair them so I left their remains as locating pins and made a clamping arrangement.

It can still be removed with a screw driver and replaced with a stock unit, if needed.

Very MacGyver of you Glen.

Finally.

I am starting into the modifications for the IR/SLU installations, rather than fixing broken stuff

Soon I will want to start practising to see if I can produce those very thin lines with my airbrush for the camo pattern I want to use.

I have settled on a camo pattern after adjusting and testing my airbrush.

I will be able to produce the thin, squiggly lines for the "Lake Balaton" pattern.

3:1's and the Flash Unit showed up today from Mato, I ordered them Friday; they got here earlier than I expected.

The 3:1's look very good, I test ran them and they ran well, everything fits quite well in the hull.

I ordered a receiver tonight from Hobby Hobby, that is the last mechanical or electrical part I required.

Now I am getting close to start painting.

But, I need to clean up the wheels a bit more, first.

The project is going along quite well, the yellow will be done today, then the camo starts so I am getting closer to having it ready for markings.

Painting is under way.

Bear in mind, there's no weathering, no accessories, no clear coat, no markings......................and, the camera doesn't show the true colours under the lights.

Here they are painted, they still need weathering and clear coat, etc. but I am very pleased with them

Thanks for the comments on the camo, I wasn't sure going into it if I could "gitter done"

Funny thing about the stencils, before application, they give the illusion of being too big, once the paint is on and the stencil removed, the size is PERFECT

I like the camo too add lots of detail and may be try a little weathering on this one, I think it would blend together well.

The racing numbers look just about the right size to me, no name on this one ?? aww...
