Some work in progress... Very Happy

Not sure exactly where this prototype fits in but the Germans tried all sorts of experimental roadwheel layouts. Another interesting one was a Panzer III with half-track interleaved roadwheels, really cool.

Been busy doing suspension adjustments and putting some much-earned primer on!

A bit on the suspension... I ground away all the existing Panzer IV mounts and roughly spaced out 6 new holes that I calculated for Panther road wheels & the length of hull I had to work with between drive sprocket and idler. Drilled out those holes & then mounted hexagonal M3-threaded standoffs, the kind that hold things together in your PC but are also popular with aircraft and drone builders..

Then I bolted some Panther suspension pieces right on! When I show this tank off I'll explain what a pain in the butt that was... let's just say for now that 10x6x3mm bearings don't just slide smoothly onto HL axles.

Each suspension arm has a leaf spring that I am constantly adjusting in length. I kept it simple... I used a couple medium sized Zip-Ties® and glued them together in layers to form a spring. Voila.

Well thank you Dean but it'll stay as is, nearly every reference to this prototype had the short barrel anyway so it fits.

Got some more painting done. It's been really slow at work, unusually, we don't get streaks like this especially in winter... I have to admit though painting is a lot easier under bright lights & with lots of cleaning brushes and water on hand Wink

Starting from the basic rattle-can grey primer I just randomly applied brown areas as I saw fit, no real reference tanks for this one. Then those brown patches were outlined in green more or less, & then the blanks filled in with yellow. Took me a couple hours and I'm pretty happy with the results.

There is a bit, but they are partially resting on a metal enclosure I fabbed up to cover the leaf springs on top. A rudimentary track guide Razz
