I like the Idea but the worry of a fire stops me from doing something like this.

Just make sure turn off all power switches before charging then will be OK

Agree , did this on one of my early tanks when I was using Ni MH but since I now use Lipo 's its best to charge in a fire proof bag or metal tool box.
