Subject: Gear Pulling Sun Sep 09, 2012 7:27 pm
I was planning on replacing the stock motors in my Sherman with new 400 motor. I got the gearbox out undid the screws holding motors then realized I don't have I gear puller to take the pinion gear off.
Does any one know if there is another way to take it off?

That's a neat trick Hulu, only problem is motor is still attached to the gearbox in the tank and the only way to remove the motor is take the gear off so it will slip out on the box.
I did order a gear puller set from Hobby Hobby, hopefully it gets here in time so I can replace motors before the Battleday.
But the opening on the puller is to small for the gear. I need a puller that has an opening that is at least 5/8" wide. Does anybody have one I can use a the Battleday this Saturday?

I finally got around to trying the gear puller. It was a little tricky because of the size of the gear and tightness of space, but I got'em off! Just have to solder the wires on to the new motors and install. I'll wait and do that tomorrow, when I'm more awake, I don't need to be burning my fingers. We know what happens when I use a hot glue gun.
This is my first gear pulling (yes, I was a gear puller virgin ) Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to put pinion gears on to the new motors?
