Subject: A proposal for next years' Aquino Tank Weekend Fri Nov 26, 2021 2:30 pm
I propose that at next year's Aquino Tank Weekend we do a particular video for charity - a Kindness War blitzkrieg, in which we attach prop boxes of chocolates and gifts to our tanks and drive them in formation to Ride of the Valkyries.
This requires a bit (well, maybe a lot) of explanation. Through my little publishing company, I am a corporate sponsor of an online charity marathon called Desert Bus for Hope. Every November Desert Bus for Hope raises money for a charity named Child's Play, which is all about making the lives of children in hospitals and shelters more bearable. This year, Desert Bus raised almost $1.2 million USD.
The way the marathon works is that a comedy group out of Victoria, BC, named LoadingReadyRun plays the worst video game in history (Desert Bus) for as long as people will donate money for them to do so, with each hour costing a compounded 7% more than the last. The game involves driving a bus from Tucson AZ to Las Vegas NV...in real time (it takes 8 hours)...with the bus listing to the right. If the bus crashes, they get towed back to the start...in real time. If they get there, they get a point, at which they get to start driving back. To do this, they drive in four shifts, each of which lasts 6 hours, during which they are also doing improv challenges and the like.
Something that has emerged between two of the shifts - Zeta, which runs from midnight to 6:00 AM their time, and Alpha Flight, which runs from 12:00-6:00 PM their time - is something called the Kindness War. Zeta leaves something nice for Alpha Flight, which in turn leaves something nice for Zeta in return. This continues throughout the run, and is done with a fair amount of silliness:
As the Kindness War continued this year, an image came into my head of a Kindness War blitzkrieg - a horde of RC tanks with boxes of chocolates attached to their tops/backs driving purposely forward to the music of Ride of the Valkyries. I think this would make a hilarious video about a minute and a half long - starting with one tank, and then a couple of tanks, and then dozens of tanks on screen. And, there would be enough people and tanks at Aquino to make this happen, and enough expertise in the group as a whole to edit it into something watchable.
So, my thought is shoot the video and then send it to Desert Bus to use in their Kindness War for next year's run. Anybody interested?

I have only so many toothless tigers to run while carrying boxes of chocolate... Especially in warm June!

I think these would be mock boxes of chocolates to our 1/16 + scale?

I was actually thinking just regular (empty) boxes of chocolates, small enough for the tank to carry it. That would be sillier, and funnier.

Bringing this thread back to life, since it is now relevant, who wants to do this? We would need:
1. Tanks.
2. Empty boxes of chocolate.
3. A way to affix said boxes of chocolate to the back of the tanks.
4. A drone or person to film them.
5. Somebody to edit it and add "Ride of the Valkyries" to the video.
And again, this is for charity - the online telethon this would be for is all about making the lives of children in hospital beds less shitty.

Maybe it's the age gap but I started watching the 3 presented videos and was completely lost and couldn't get past 5 minutes. It is admirable that some how they can raise $1.5 million US for any charity. I like the idea of empty Toblerone boxes mounted to say, the tops of our IR apples to move with our turrets in a IR joust. Can we ask Toblerone to donate some empty boxes or we can buy, as needed, 100g individual at $2.49 each (CHEAPER THAN BUYING BOX OF 20 @ $132.22), from Amazon. I know Hach has a drone and video editing capabilities and is really good at it.

That's a fun idea, but that doesn't really match up with the Kindness War at all. I mean, the Kindness War is the two shifts doing nice things for one another while using really aggressive language about it (which is part of the joke). That why a video of tanks rolling forward Blitzkrieg-style works (delivery of chocolates), while jousting doesn't.
That said, jousting sounds like fun...it just doesn't quite work for the charity marathon.
