Hey guys,

Finally for my Devo F4 FPV radio and receiver sorted out. I was going to use this for the Battle Day on Saturday to record some battle scene footage but my backyard will have to do for the time being. Freaky is going to get me the F7 (soon ?) then I will be able to use the radio to turn the recording on and off, but for now it is manually done and unfortunately I have permanently installed the camera in the targeting system housing on the Leo which is immediately to the right of the main gun.

Check it out !

Thanks Greg........ Like I said I am waiting for the F7 radio which will have a switch on the radio itself, but if that doesn't work out I will run a switch to the load/gunner's hatch and be able to turn it on/off without lifting the hull. It is a toggle which makes it more difficult but it is about two inches directly behind the hatch opening so I can in theory build a mechanical push rod to push the toggle.

Are you powering that with a separate battery?

For sure. Obviously on the radio without other trickery like a servo would be best.

BattleArmor, it is powered by a separate Lipo right now. I have it set-up such that I can share the main battery if I like, but there is way too much draw even when I am just running the tank the FPV picture would go all fuzzy on me. Also, the camera/transmitter will accept 3C lipo as well as 2C. I also have a separate switch mounted to turn just the FPV set-up on and off as well. Having said that, I can get a really cool video when I am stationary and then fire the gun as the transmission would go fuzzy when I fired, just like real life gunnery exercise video.

The battle day last Saturday was cancelled due to weather but I wasn't quite ready yet anyway. Now that I am I will be able to do some battle scene video during our next battle day.

I have worked with Fatshark FPV for a couple of years now, and found the same thing.  It needs a separate battery source, as the current draw from the motors causes trouble with the video, and that is why I asked the question.  I thought maybe this hardware was immune from this issue.

It is fun, and with the Fatshark goggles you have no helicopter view of the battlefield.  Threats are only noticed when you see them through the FPV camera.  Way more of an adrenalin rush!!!!

Sorry I meant 2S and 3S (Still new to the lipo business), but I tried 20C ones and it still does the same thing so I don't think there is anything that you can do about it than using separate battery. Lipo is so small is not a big deal.

Fatshark is way cooler since you are literally in the tank, but I will have problem with the motion sickness unfortunately. As it is now I need to take gravol to play first person shooter video game. Driving the tank in goggles will kill me after 10 minutes !

The video quality looks really cool Mike, I like this system. I'm still trying to get a good sense of what is available and what works with existing gear. For me, and I imagine a bunch of other people, the big hassle up front is going to new radio gear.

Still I'm interested and would build a FPV-specific tank in the future, it really is a lot of fun.

Jordan,

The FPV camera set-up is completely separate from the radio. I have a separate power feed and on/off, and the only reason they are tied together is because the screen is build into the radio. You can simply add a 7" 5.8Ghz screen and keep all you existing radio equipment:

http://www.rc711.com/shop/boscam-rxlcd5802-58ghz-diversity-lcd-screen-receiver-monitor-p-8660.html

In fact I find that the screen is too small on the Devo FPV radio so a 7" screen upgrade would be a consideration. Basically there is two radios build into the Walkera F4/F7, one 2.4Ghz for the tank, and one 5.8 Ghz for the video. They just happen to be in one package.

There is some integration for the F7 (You can turn on the recording with the radio) but that's it.
