HI guys.

While waiting for this battleday to arrive so we can pick our first tanks from Curtis, i broke down and bought another tank - an HL Pershing. got metal tracks and wheels with it, as well as the metal gear box.

i have a couple of questions:

1: How do i get the tracks off?  seems like a simple enough thing, but i could not find anything online about it.

2:  Can you buy aftermarket Quick releases for the top hull? I'd hate to constantly have to unscrew it.

I'm just examining it now and prepping it for painting. I'm going to do the infamous world of tanks Creme, red and blue camo on it, which is really the only reason i considered the Pershing. i also have already made some of the stencils for the markings.

It won't be IR ready by the weekend, but I'm hoping to have it painted and running by then.

any other suggestions you can give me regarding the Pershing would be great.

charging unit is the key, install one, you can charge tank from outside, no more opening up.

1:  The easiest way to get the track off is to take the drive sprocket off.   It's easy to do, just unscrew it with an Allen wrench. Very Happy

2: There is no quick release that I know of, but you could set it up with earth magnets.

As for other mods, I would get some 400 motors for more speed (the Pershing is not very fast) and cut the side fenders off (makes it look better Very Happy ).

thanks stince.

new question?

how on earth do i get the metal tracks apart?  i could find no way to get them apart.  thee i need to separate so i can put on the tank....

I had to re-solder the lead going to the external aerial, as it had come loose.

I have to base coat  on hte hull more or less.  I'll start a thread in the projects section one i have the base coat layered and washed.

The only way to get the track apart is tap one of the pins through, usually with another spare pin. Once you get it started, you pull it the rest of the way with pliers.

If you take the upper hull off or if the side fenders are cut off, you can take the drive sprocket off and then you can put the tracks on the same time you put the sprocket back on.

I've never worked on a Pershing, my wisdom in the field here is limited (I've never actually said that before, go figure.. Wink )

Stince is right on the money regarding your questions. I'll be down on Saturday with my various hulls, you can see some options for making the hull easier to open up. Magnets are the best best in most cases!!

Also, yea, there is no aftermarket quick-release or metal hull for the HL Pershing.

Yes, collectively at the tables at the meet, there should be enough experience and variety of tools, and likely spare parts to take care of it.

Just about everyone at the meet travels with at least one tool box full of parts and tools.

By all means, bring it along Very Happy
