Hi guys.

my friend Dan and I have been playing around with his walker bulldog. we can't seem to get the tracks working.  the turret functions on the other stick all work. we turned the "engine" on and we get the sounds, and the LEDS n the board go when we apply throttle and try to steer. but the tracks will not move.  i also checked all the connections.

I've not worked with hte SLU before, so I'm not sure what else to do.

we were hoping to get him learning how to drive before the 19th, so any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Steve

Alright let's get started Razz First off is this brand new out of the box or had this particular tank been operational before?
Do you get any whining or other physical or audible response from the speed controller, or anything else? SLUs have been known to blow the occasional Esc Sad

Also be aware that the engine has to be 'on' in order to get any motor action, unlike Clark's that will go either way.

As always double check receiver and input wires. Do you have the slu manual?

The tank had been operational before but had not been used much. hte original owner said it was working a week ago.

I'm not sure what the ESC  sounds like. but the "motor" was turned on ,and the LEDS on the 2ndary board(ESC?) were lighting up on forward or reverse(green for forward, red for reverse).

I have a copy of the manual and set up the channels accordingly.

Ah, well it seems you're set up fine signal and radio wise, and the brain-board is at least partially operational as far as we know.

My remaining thought (among others like, keep breathing, blink, and sit up straight) is that the ESC chip is indeed porked. Has happened to be twice and a couple other members as well. HULU is the man to talk to here if this is indeed what's happening. The chip in question is on the ESC board (that is the one that has the motor connections) and plugs into it. Check for burnt or evidence of bad connections / solder points. Those can be fixed.

Greg is also correct, just make sure you have a topped off battery. Those yellow HL nicad's are horrible at keeping proper voltage and in the past gave me many issues like this.

Hi:
I am the one who listed the tank for John.
We have all discovered those 5300 batteries do not last as long as they should ( Also should be recharged just before battle day ) , a bunch of us bought them and I found they were no where near as good as the the ones that cost a lot more.
The tank was treated kindly and not used hardly at all.

Wayne, if you open the 5300mah battery, you will see 1700mah in it. It was a scam.

actually the brackets on the gunmantle that were screwed into the "BB unit" were broken, and the gun mantle could be pulled off with a little bit of an upward jolt.  but it was an easy fix.  it's up and running, and it was still easily a great value. Dan is very happy.

not cool that the 5300maH batteries were 1700mah on a new wrapper.  we'll keep that in mind.  he has an extra battery, and between the other 6 of us now we have 3x 6800s, 6x 2000s and 4x 1700s.

I have 2 of these grey ones. One seems to last quite well the other is a little shorter but neither is anywhere near the short length of time a 1700 MAH lasts. I took the grey wrapper off and and the cells are in plain cardboard tubes with no markings. I am interested to know Tomzag where you got yours from and if they had a wrapper underneath that indicated 1700? I have a buddy at Battery Experts who I am going to take my 2 to and get a final verdict on the MAH. One thing we all must remember to do is FULLY discharge these batteries before you charge them again.(most of you probably already know that) Especially the first 3 or 4 times. If you don't, the batteries can develop a "memory" and will show a full charge at a much reduced capacity. And again for any newbies, I know you are tempted to do the quick charge at  2, 3 or even 6 amps but DON'T DO IT! Never charge these batteries at more than an 1 amp if you want them to last. I trickle mine so low that they don't even get warm. Yes it takes about 6 hours but on my 6800 MAH I get about 2 to 3 hours of run time....

This is good to clear this up. I got mine from Curtis and they are in plain grey. They don't have the label on them like these ones do.

the one Dan got with his walker bulldog from Wayne's friend has the same style label as the 6800maH batteries from curtis, so that clears that up.

You may want to check your info.
My understanding is that Nickel Cadmium batteries develop a memory and have to be treated the way you describe.
But most of our batteries are Nickel Metal Hydride and do not require such care.
