Hey all, a few of you might have talked to me or heard that some IR bulbs I bought online are inflicting FAR too much pain on enemy and friendly tanks alike so I wanted to share info on them, ask if it's something in their spec and hopefully whether I can tone them down a bit.

So for starters here is the link to the bulb in question :  http://www.adafruit.com/products/388

 • 5mm LED
 • 940nm wavelength (most common)
 • 20 degree beam width
 • 100 mA continuous, 1000 mA pulse
 • Approx 1.6V forward voltage

They seem to be exactly on par with standard Tamiya bulbs and frankly besides the nuclear-missile effect they have on the battlefield they work perfect and are quite powerful and reliable.

I`m going to experience with recessing the bulbs starting at 2cm inside my emitter tube instead of the usual 9mm standard. With luck that`s all it`ll take to narrow the beam and reduce friendly fire and shotgun-spray shots.

I`ll keep you posted! Please let me know any thoughts (Non captain action dirty ones...) you might have!! Very Happy

So after some initial experimentation I've completed the following.

I painted the inside of the barrel and MOST of the IR bulb flat black. No noticeable Difference.

Then I started pushing the IR bulb back into the barrel... centimeter by centimeter.

As I got to the 6cm point, I started noticing a tightening of the beam. However at this point it was still much worse than any of my other tanks.

11cm recessed into the barrel. Yikes. I got what I would call almost acceptable beam spread, only ~25% more spread out than my sherman under the same surroundings.

I'm going to install a regular bulb that Curtis provides with the Clark boards. This bulb is tooooo powerful.
