| I just don't trust cold solder joints much... Plus hard to control the direction and output of a heat gun vs a soldering iron when working on an assembled tank.

| So these are consider cold solder ? I wonder if I can use a blow torch to heat it instead of a heat gun. They also said you should use a reflective nozzle. Either way will give it a go and see what its like. |

| I tried, didn't like. Should have told me. I still have some you could have tried! :-) _____________________________________________ "There are things in Russia which are not as they seem..." Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov

| Hi Guys,
These solder splices are "standard" for use in aircraft wiring repairs and are used in all areas of aircraft builds/repairs. I have installed hundreds of them when doing repairs or builds during my Avionics career.
DO NOT USE a TORCH. Use a heat gun preferably with a curved shield. This will protect areas you do not want to heat.
It is NOT a "cold solder sleeve" the heating process will melt the solder band and solder the wires together and the bands at each end will seal the connection against moister intrusion.
Good Stuff! Barry |

| Thanks Barry. I was hoping for a low setting torch. Heat gun is a bit of a bother. Either way is better than soldering iron I suppose. |

| Apologies, I meant to say that it is a low temperature solder (The ones shown are 111 C). Whereas most 60/40 is closer to 188 C.
Can they be used? Yes. Just not for me on my tanks. Because I have spools of solder and yards of heat shrink to use up long before I go that route. (And my mini-torches fit in amazingly small spaces). |

| I've used these guys to wire up my lights and acc. for my Argo 6x6.... haven't had any issues with them! I used a lighter on them to get them going |
