Hello all. I just installed a pair of motors that I haven't tried before so here's a brief review and summary of my thoughts.

The motors in question are listed as "Banebots 12V 15500rpm, 16.65oz-in" on robotshop.com and "RS395 Motor - 12V" on Banebots.com

RS-395 Brushed DC Motor : Review! Attachment

Anyhow I 'discovered' this motors while watching a youtube video going over the various aspects of the new RcTank.de Panther metal lower hull. It made mention that the motors are significantly longer than stock, so even in a wide Panther I had to slightly bend the wire tabs so they would not touch the opposite gearbox.

Performance wise.., these motors are SLOW. Significantly slower than the stock motors that came with my steel 4:1 Taigen-ish gearboxes from rctank.de. I don't know those specs so I cannot compare. My Panther is running ~25-30% slower than previous. This is a total crawler now. However the torque increase is immense! I was crawling over rocks, through thick uncut grass and embankments and the tank did not hesitate. I can control the speed of a very-slow crawl with these motors to an extent I have not had before. I'm impressed. The tank will crawl without stuttering at scale half walking speed. Very cool

A note on noise; previously this tank was giving the all too typical squeal and rattle that Heng Long style gearboxes give off under various loads. In certain turns, reverse, one gearbox or the other invariably gives off sound. Not anymore. It may be a fluke in how I installed the motors, or reset the pinions, but this tank sounds like the low hum of 2 high torque motors and metal tracks. The gearbox sound has been reduced ~90%. The only tank I own that makes less sound is my Mato Sherman with brass gears, and it's nearly as slow and half the weight!

In summary I would recommend these motors for very heavy tanks with 4:1 gearboxes, metal-hulled tanks under 14lb with 3:1 gearboxes or any tank you want to be quiet & drive incredibly scale.

If you're in Canada I recommend robotshop.com, they carry a bunch of useful stuff including servos and motors, inexpensive shipping and fast delivery.

Up next, the RS380 Motor - 7.2V motor from Banebots... nearly as much torque but 1.75x the RPM. A medium tanks dream!
