Hello,
Ive been digging for a few days but cant seem to find a straight forward method(maybe there isnt) to get my turret to move quicker. The tank in question is a stock henglong airsoft leo2. Im looking to get as close to possible to 9sec 360 rotation. Any advice would be appreciated
Im also trying to source some CF aerials for my build, i have 0 fab abilities with this stuff.
thanks

You can find double speed turret motor and slip ring for 360 degree from Australia

Riteoff, welcome and hope to see you coming to one of the local meets. The issue with the turret rotation speed is two folded. The stand motor is not fast or powerful enough to give any kind of modern tank rotation speed. Upgrading the motor helps, as I have done it in my T-90. However, you will also hit a limit as the Heng Long rotation unit gears are not sufficiently strong after certain point. It will simply slip.
If you want modern tank rotation speed the only solution is really to use a 360 degress servo which means that you have to upgrade the electronics as standard Heng Long does not support any servo control at all.
Here is a quick video of my ZTZ-99A with gyro and servo rotation:

Hello and thanks for the reply!
Can you recommend a servo and gear? I will be getting a clark tk22 which i think would handle the electronics side
What you do is open up the Heng Long rotation unit and use the final drive gear and mounted it onto the 360 servo like this:
Then can choose to either mount it the same way as the Heng Long rotation unit on the upper hull. Here is some pictures of possible locations:
But then I decided to do it the hard way, which is mounting it on the lower hull. You basically need to figure out where the turret ring will be when the upper and lower hull are together. What I did is took off the turret, but keep the turret ring and then I put the two hulls together I can mark down where the servo should be located:
The upside to this is that now when you separate the upper and the lower, the servo gear is also separated from the turret so your turret is free to move. Have I mounted the servo on the upper it will be the same as the Heng Long stock set-up, and the turret cannot be moved easily. Here is the final picture. Notice I have to cut a little bit off the lower hull so that I can get the proper fit.
