Well been eyeing the Dragon 1/6 Sherman and realizing that the sheer size of it might cause the wifey alarm to go off, I ended up getting this instead. It is RC already so it will be easy to convert to better electronics and also some new functions like recoil and lights/flash/MG etc. Should arrived shortly. If anyone has any experience with it your advice would be much apprecaited.

You should name it 'Ankle Biter', 'cause that plow is going to hurt..

Since it is 1/6, it is more of a knee buster than ankle biter........ Very Happy

Good for you!
I may bring mine out to one of the meets, had them for years.
Lots of fun and a great entry tank in to the big boys of 1 /6 tanking!!
I am converting mine to Hobby RC electronics, Sabertooth ESC,. The drive system is OK just a few things need to be done and the tracks are good on the rc version but you can up grade for a more real look and lots of cash.. not worth it to me....

So yours is factory RC ? I am just thinking of putting a 1/16 tank board in there and see how it goes. What is the drive motor size ?

Nice have to go ask Painless about his. Thanks Mike !

Not going to spend anything on it other than making it work with my radio and board. Basic lights, MG and barrel flash and that will be the end of that.

I know that the original ones were run from a 12V lead battery. But the control scheme from the original transmitters was horrific (aka turning left joystick was on/off, not proportional.)
My guess is that a 3S Lipo would do them fine.

That is my hope right now. 3S should be close enough. I certainly don't want a mini car battery. Will be junking everything almost told the guy to dump the controller for me (He already junked the battery and charger because they are dead and just add to the shipping which is astronomical).

Hoping an IBU would run this sucker.

I modified the body on mine years ago and did not buy any after market stuff just did it myself. I am using a after market speed control and 1/16 rc tank board.
So far I am using a 12 volt battery and it works fine, I do not care about the weight it was made to run heavy. I would advise on installing brass sleeves on all the wheels because I have a lot of miles on mine and they do ware out and get sloppy.
Mine is not totally finished ,I want to do more to it but looks good.
I put motors in the driver figure and am working that out now. Also did a 1/6 jeep and started a 1/6 scout car to rc set up.

Cool. I will not be putting miles on this and definitely will ditch the 12v lead battery for a smaller 3S lipo. It should run the existing electronics and IBU will accepts 3S as well when I switch.

Which 1/16 Tank board you are using that allows you to use ESCs as well ? Or did you just use the ESCs right off the receiver ? Did you try driving the motors with just the 1/16 tank board ?

I (Y) connector off the receiver to the tank board and to the Sabertooth esc. Never tried to drive the bigger motors of the tank board, too much drain and do not want to run the risk of damaging the tank board. Stock Stuart turret motor works fine.

Fingers crossed. I saw that the turret motor is a small 130 and the drive motors look to be 540s so if I run my IBU at 3S it should be okay. IBU also has replaceable fuse both for the drive motor and electronics so I am not too worry. I will make sure I set it to 20 amp as well.  Very Happy

Wow the beast showed up today. Even bigger than I imagined. Definitely exhibit A at my future divorce proceeding. To my great surprise, hooked it up to a 2S lipo and it came to life with the stock electronics ! As Big Mike pointed out, not the best controller design in the world, but it is working with MG sound and turret rotation along with the standard track movement (right stick - right track left stick - left track).

Also looks like whoever did the weathering was real life mud so will have to wipe this thing down to see what the actual colour is underneath.

Spent the long weekend working on it. Still working on lights, but here is a quick video. It is running on an IBU2U with a 2S lipo, so I am hoping when it run it with a 3S lipo it will run faster (and turn faster !), but I general like my tank slow anyway so this is okay with me. I also have to replace the completely out of scale barrel as it has a shell shooting mechanism before. It is not tapered but is the right length anyway. Used a Clark gear based recoil unit. Also too big to run inside !

Your getting there, looking good.
From the factory the rc tank is much faster. In WW2 they are fast recon tanks with two 346 V8 Cadillac flat head 110 HP  engines that they would modify the carburettors and oil passages for more speed. Faster is good...Racing Stuart... You just going off the new board speed control ?

Switched the IBU2U to 3S lipo and ordered a 5000 mAh battery so everything is much faster now. Not that I can run it very fast in a room before the plow cutting something anyway. Yes everything runs off the IBU2U which is in the turret.

Upgraded parts for my M5A1 ! East Coast Armory which specialize in 1/6 resin and 3D printed parts. Open periscope's all around, antenna base and bogie covers and skid plates. Also managed to unstuck the rear idler suspension so now it is functional.
