Pretty good price for what is in stock. Both my kids goes to University of Guelph so I drive by them literally every other week. I guess the dude runs it out of his house.

Maybe you can pick them up in person then you know if it is the real deal or not. I am tempted by the metal Stug for $395.

I need some technical information to know how deep I should go in this hobby.  I know that Can-Am conducts its battles with the infrared battle system.  Is this Tamiya-exclusive?  Could another infrared-equipped make, like a Taigen, also participate?  I have a 2.7Hz HL Stug III (personal fave type) with infrared; is this a joke?

As a Tamiya properly equipped with controller is about $1,500, and tankers are very thin on the ground around here, I am just trying to get a sense of whether I should proceed (though your universally welcome to me is most gratifying).

Major,

We use the Tamiya IR Battle system but you don't need Tamiya tanks to battle necessarily. Many after market system is compatible with Tamiya, such as Clark, IBU, Elmod etc. The only one that is not unfortunately is Taigen's as they have their own, and do did Heng Long but they stop making their IR about a year ago.

What that means is that you will need to upgrade the electronics on your Stug to join the fun. Also, some of the newer all metal version of the Heng Long tank now actually have Clark board built-in so for those your are ready to battle out of the box for less than $1,000.

Clark board is probably your cheapest option (There is another one but nobody really uses them anymore. It is called Mako and it is basically an add on to the Taigen IR system so that they can understand Tamiya signals). Apparently there were some tanks that are using Mako in the club I was told.

Other benefits of upgrading:

- Lipo battery vs NiMH and NiCa
- Better Sound or the correct sound in most cases
- Servo recoil
- Better motor control
- Upgrade to 2.4Ghz radio/receiver
- Setting of amount of track recoil

MikeC.

You can modify a standard HL/Taigen to work with the Tamiya battle system. You would need a MAKO 2018 or similar.

I believe you also need to change the IR emitter as well (Wavelength issues).

That is the cheapest option available at about $45+USD of upgrades (shipping/install/etc...). However it is also the most limited as the HL/Taigen receivers (Apples) are very easy to hit from angles and ranges, unlike official Tamiya Apples.

Most of our tanks are converted HL/Taigens with aftermarket controller boards (Clark TK-22 @ 100USD+) plus a HL/Taigen or Tamiya receivers ($15-20/$90USD) Plus shipping/install/wiring.

Some have went the Tamiya route due to the quality and the fact that they have to do nothing to the tank internally.

Add in steel gearboxes, recoil units, flashes, and then exterior accessories and paint jobs for the modellers/purists/kit masters. $ starts adding Smile

.
Yes guys I am the real deal and yes I was at the Oshawa show a few weeks back. I am a full time retailer with over 20 years doing this and I also have an E commerce store selling worldwide. We are clearing out of our RC tanks and the prices reflected are close to cost prices. We certainly do not have much left in stock, 2 were shipped today and 3 on Sat.  Which is a great deal better than we did at the Oshawa show. We are also doing free shipping.  Like the saying goes, when they are gone they are gone.
The Taigen tanks are pretty good quality, much better than HL in my opinion.
Why are we clearing them out? My issues are with the distributor "IMEX" not the product but that is  another story. That I will share to anyone who asks.

Yes we do Cash, Visa, Master Card. I would suggest buying on our web site and selecting in store pick up, as we have limited supply of some of the tanks
