Well finally calling this done. Longer than my usual build. Can't even remember when I started but I think it was after the 1st lockdown. Anyway, got this display model off eBay for a reasonable price last year, then headed over to AFV website for the RC parts but they are not shipping then because of COVID, but Dom at rctank.de comes thru again, got it for me from them and shipped over. Order the gearbox, turret mechanical mount, front radar rotation unit and resin replacement. Turns out that the gearbox and motors is just a Heng Long set with the right plate and shaft (I was hoping OEM Tamiya), and the resin front radar replacement is like in another scale, so ended up DIY the front radar from the kit but RC it, same as the rear radar. Also hook up the twin cannon with LEDs. I think total was about $1000 CDN. Not bad for a Tamiya, and definitely not bad for a Gepard which is rare as hell.

Always really liked the Gepard. Nice tank MikeC! Well done as always.
Now the question is how long will you keep it?

Thanks guys............ Will keep it for a bit and then see what happens. My usually buyer is not into moderns so this will sit for a bit I am sure. It actually runs very nicely for a Leo I chassis, but it is brand new and plastic tracks with twin motors. I am used to the old zinc track and single clutch motor chassis so this is like day and light compared to that one.

Do you have pics of the inside I like to see so I can figure out what to do with my Leopard 1a4

So this is what the opposite of Big Mike's tank would look like. Nothing bolted down, everything toss in there in the tub with open torsion bar suspension (I did put a bottom on the MFU so there won't be any shorts). Will clean it up at some point. Notice that the gearbox is not Heng Long, but the after market upgraded variety. Also forgot to mention the IBU2U board, which means that if I can find a cannon firng sound files I can put it on the SD card instead. Also needed full 8 channel for all the extra servo controls on the turret. Thanks to Big Mike again for the turret ring. Heng Long rotation unit epoxied onto the upper. Life of a Display Model conversion.
Greg don't think this is much help if you have the RC version of the Leo I which is single motor clutch style.
