Subject: Cromwell : VERY Tempting..!! Wed Feb 06, 2013 10:19 am
Well, even as my KV-2 stands incomplete, the fever has caught up to me again.
D*mn tanks... ><
Anyhoo, I just re-discovered this little gem Cromwell 1:16 Kit .... Wow! It's gorgeous!
Im imagining it with a custom SLU (Rule Britannia, anyone?), and Waltersons with HIGH speed gears... and you build it yourself.
I really hope to see these laser cut styrene kits take off, they're amazing.
What do you guys think?

I would love a Cromwell! I've been eye that kit for almost a year now.
I wonder if we could get a discount if we placed a group order.

If his prices are in Euros (it doesnt say ANYWHERE but I guess they are), it's a tad expensive. Dollars, not too bad...
I'd get the plastic wheels and PnzIV drive sprocket.. for 300 euros metal wheels are.. silly... same for a 57E drive wheel.
BUT, it looks amazing, it's a well built kit, and it will be FAST if you keep it light. I want one for the summer.

That's impressive, and no I had not looked at the manual before.
I just emailed them with my questions, like pricing and internal details, etc.
Seems like it's fairly complete, all you need is running gear & turret rotation so.. a cheap P4 donor tank or even just parts if you can find them... and a Britannia SLU

Let me know what you find out, maybe we can order together and get a discount or at least save on the shipping. I can always pick it up at a Battleday.

With the exchange and shipping, you looking at something around the $500 range, and that doesn't include electronics or the gearboxes.

Yea it'd be expensive to go all-out on, for sure.
Stince, you're better at finding these sorts of things than I am... Cromwell's in Canadian markings? I know at least one unit was equipped with them at Normandy... as seen here?

As far as I know the Canadians didn't use the Cromwell, the Polish 1st Armour Division which was under command of the 1st Canadian Army, was equipted with them though.
There was the 1st Canadain Centaur Battery that was used to support the British 6th Airbourne Division for Operation: Paddle.
The Centaur and Cromwell are pretty much the same tank, the only major difference was the motor. Centaurs had the Liberty motor and the Cromwell had the Rolls-Royce Meteor motor.
But I'll look around and see if I can find any thing.
You could always claim it was a rescue tank by a Canadian Division.
