I used to take a push pin, the kind you'd use on a bulletin board, file the tip flat and use it as a little punch.
Now, in the long run its MUCH easier to remove the tracks by taking off the drive sprocket and going from there. Unpinning the tracks after they've been removed is a lot easier and safer.
