This thread will be a work in progress and should be considered a companion to our Ten Commandments found here. Whereas the Commandments are a general outline of the basic expectations of conduct on and around the field the Rules of Engagement (ROE) will be focused more towards combat etiquette & minor limitations designed to make the battle experience more lasting, tactically engaging and memorable. 

The idea was raised over the Fall & Winter meets that all too often battles dissolve very quickly into mad dashes through enemy lines, leading to the individual pairs of tankers circling one another until someone dies. Depending on the scenario this does change, but the ROE will help keep things based in tactics that resemble armored warfare.

...not to sound extremely serious, mind you!

Rules of Engagement:

• Tanks shall remain at least 12 feet from enemy forces until numerical parity or superiority is obtained. Applies to all scenarios unless otherwise agreed.
  

The idea here is to slow down the pace of battles. You must try to work together and exploit routes not defended to flank, or take advantage of your teams fast light tanks to take the long way around defended points. Platoons of 2-3 tanks can easily hold an entire road this way.

• At no point shall tankers purposely disrupt field accessories or buildings to change the tactical situation.
  
• Physical proximity will result in a warning. Contact is to be considered unacceptable & will rely on the victims mood to determine penalty. Free shots encouraged.
  

So that's nice and simple. Suggestions and ideas are appreciated, lets keep the idea of historically accurate tactics in mind but still understand we're playing with radio control miniatures so not everything translates. As always have a ton of fun and don't sweat the early deaths.

Good points. I like the idea of extending battles through the use of regulation ie: platoons/ team work,rather than the free for all battles that frequently result. Not to say that we could not have specific
"free for all " battles like WoT ,but it would be more fun to simulate an actual battle now and then.

i guess we will need to test everyone emitter range at the next outdoor meet and again so we know how they act on a sunny and a cloudy day

If you can't make a hit at 15-20 feet in pure sunlight you might have issues, heh, sounds like a lot of testing time!

Great idea, anything to eliminate the above quoted scenario is a good thing, IMHO.

In the past, we did this in the "can't cross the river" battles but the new ideas are good, too.

Depending on amount of tanks , how long does the average battle last ? I'll have a ton of a questions at next meeting , lol

Yes depending on how the battles go they can be very short which is not really ideal, it takes away from the immersion. Danville battles last 45 minutes sometimes which is way beyond what we normally have, that first hit is a big deal with Tamiya tanks.

I watched the Danville battles which had me concerned about battery life , I like the shorter type battles , so I assume you guys play a few rounds thruout the day ? Be good for us new guys to get practice and make small changes

Between mechanical/technical problems and general madness, our battle doesn't usually last longer than 15-20 minutes if that. Outdoor meets at Fort Erie tend to last a little bit longer and more organized. Indoor meets in K/W are really more getting together and just have pick-up battles.

There isn't the same level of standard equipment in our club as Danville so compatibility sometimes is an issue (i.e. some tank can't be shot at by some other tanks etc). A big chunk of time is spent fixing tanks for me anyway.

From a battery perspective, once you switch over to lipo it really becomes a non-issue. I have not had a battery running out since switching over to 2200 mAh for tight space, to the standard 5000 mAh and my monster 13,000 mAh one.

At the meantime, just make sure you have couple of charged up spares NiMH and you should be good. There is also power source if you completely exhausted your supply and need to charge up onsite.

That's the way it works at our meets 

The Danville battles take longer because the "prairie dog" style they play, pop there heads out, shoot and duck for cover until you can shoot again. 

But newbies don't need to worry, we usually start the battledays with simpler rules in the mourning, before getting into the more advance battles.  We can even partner you up with veteran to help you get started.

Thanks for the advice guys , I've noticed that prairie dog style of battle at Danville , not that's it's bad but not quite realistic , you'd have to have a ton of gear and some huge motors to do what they do , and Mike , can't see your stuff breaking down a whole lot , you got some quality stuff , ( seen that tow missile in action ) lol

I don't have Tamiya stuff so everything is a mash-up/DIYs and that's where you get the breakdown, but that's part of the hobby for me anyway. More than half the time is making sure everything is working properly together. 

Detailing/weathering is not my strong suit so putting the mechanical/electrical stuff together is the fun part for me.

I agree the first battles are not as advanced as those in the afternoon but, hardly worth mourning over. Darn that spell cheaker LOL

10 commandments read, and i rarely curse and don't drink.. i promise that if i curse i will do so in dutch

but my question is simple .. what are the rules concerning non-tanks  like my M7, M16, DUKW and ford GPA ?  (and i have some trucks as well )

the Ford s to small to have more electronics added, but the m7 and the DUKW could have a system added, just need to know what to set it to and what to use, i have a few henglong 6.0's that should be compatible .

so if anyone knows what the rules are for non-tanks, let me know please.

I have built a M-3 GMC based on the M16 and the receiver is mounted on the Gun shield. Stince has it now and he can post some pics. You can always use a combined unit from Dean/Tom so that all you need to mount is the apple and the IR emitter is built into it. 

That's also how I did my M12 GMC.

I never battle ready my M7 before I shipped it out to US. It was actually the original prototype from Vandra that I purchased off them. It was a beaut with a driver in it.
