OK Guys and gals,
I'm going to start up this thread already because we need to make sure we are all GTG for AQUINO 2023!

June 9th: opens @ 9am, closes @ 5pm (Setup is usually in the morning, cutting grass, etc...)
June 10th: opens @ 10am, closes @ 5pm
June 11th: opens @ 10am, closes @ 5pm (Teardown starts around 2-3pm)

Hotel: (Plan is to stay at the same hotel as last year so we can cook our dinner again!)

• What days are you needing and for how many? Room type?
  

Dinners: Trying to keep meal costs down to under $20 a person, suggestions?
(The Pork chops worked out to $15 last time, and the hamburgers/sausages/hotdogs were $25, so we averaged it)

Lauren Noah and I will be coming up Friday to Sunday.

Woohoo!  It took me less than a month to notice the Aquino thread this year!

(Possibly I shouldn't be that proud of this...in my defence, I've been playing catch-up on month's worth of professional commitments.)

We are expecting to arrive sometime Friday afternoon and leave Sunday afternoon.  It will be four total (me, my wife, my 4 year-old daughter, and my 1 year-old son).

As far as meals go, I don't eat pork, my wife does, and my daughter is really big into hot dogs (but we can bring those ourselves).

If allowed the 705th Armored Brigade. (Peterborough) would again like to join the all out war at Aquino, we now have even more tanks, and a wealth more of knowledge, not me as i still think the biggest tank is no match for even a small warship like a destroyer, but that's cause my interested has been naval based for the last 40 + years.
as usual we will behave to the best of our abilities :-)

As a bona fide trained military historian (my MA is in War Studies from RMC), I can think of several ways that the largest tank can quite easily outmatch a destroyer...

1. It can be dropped on the destroyer from a high altitude.

2. It can be smuggled into the destroyer in parts, assembled by covert agents, and start firing from within.

3. It can lure the destroyer onto land with an invitation to a fancy dinner, and then fire upon it in the middle of the pasta course.

4. It can spend several years mastering the game of chess while the destroyer is busy living it up, and then lure it into a tournament in which it beats its 2 games out of 3 (because even destroyers can get lucky).

5. It can challenge the destroyer to a race on the autobahn, putting the destroyer in a no-win scenario - it can't operate on land, and even if it could, it can't fit on the autobahn, meaning the tank wins by default either way.

6. It can bribe a nearby submarine.

So, as you can see, the largest tank is indeed a match for a destroyer, it just takes some creativity...

i would agree if the Germans ever had build the Ratte and put it near the shore, it's twin 281 mm guns have sufficient range to kill a ww2 era destroyer over 5 miles from the shore.

BUT.
a ww2 era Tribal class destroyer armed with its designed armament of 8 120 mm guns mounted in 4 double turrets and 10 torpedo tubes can.
1 Blast the tank to bits with its guns from miles away, almost from over the horizon.
2 Torpedo the tank if its trying to attack by sea.
3 learn how to play "world of Tanks" and learn about the tactics being used by the commanders of that type of tank and so be prepared.
4 Challenge the tank crew to a fancy dinner at sea, in a heavy gale, so the tank crew gets seasick hangs over the railing, barfs and falls into the sea.. and the sharks clean up the litter.

but comparing the "king of the battlefield" to "the greyhound of the sea" is like comparing a mouse to an elephant, sure they are both mammals but a mouse in the house leaves a lot smaller holes then an elephant.

Given enough ammo, a DDG up to a BB could blast a canal for itself. Therefore severing the autobahn for all times. Who wins now, the tortoise or the hare? 

I'm actually totally free for this weekend! Expect me to bring a small fleet, while possibly swapping out to fight my Maxim gun during a few battles. That's if the Soviet reenactors are allowed back this year..!

i'm bringing tanks but i do agree ships are more fun, its just that i can take all my tanks along +have room for 5 people while if i bring my "fleet" along i have just room for myself and 1 passenger.

oh.. and that's just the ones in 1:144.

i said i was a converted boat guy...
none of my ships are over 6ft10 however.. but there are a lot of them (in my opinion) in various stages of build.

we are thinking about it (the rooms)
driving back and forth to PTBO is like 35 bucks a day so if we can find some cheap rooms not to far away it may be an option.
i would like to be there Sat-Sun, but i have not heard if we are allowed to come and play along yet:-(

I need a room with 1 king bed, for myself.  Friday to Sunday for sure.
If the wife is coming she get the floor.     She would not see this, I hope.

she may let you get away with this statement, but when you get back home you better start building a dog-house, Cause that's where you will be sleeping a while.

I’m in for Saturday to Sunday. Will need a 2 bed room for Saturday night. All food options are a go! Two adults will be attending (yes … I am counting me as an adult ).

OK. Looking at the same hotel as last time. I have talked to them and can currently get the Courtyard rooms @ $169 per night which includes breakfast in the morning.
I checked La Quinta and they are $157-$169 per night.

Unfortunately nothing has really reduced in prices since Pre-Covid. BOO!

Make sure to PM me or email me Date of arrival/departure, and name of person the room will be reserved under (and number of guests for the room/breakfasts).
