  • -         Memberships
As you all know memberships are $25yr, this is for the use of the field in fort erie. I would like to express some changes to be looked at. This will also tie into the forums side of it, I feel everyone that is a member of the “club” should be a paid member $25 a year is nothing. Now its great that this gives the money to have use of the field but why not push make it more.

On the forums it could be made that users can view the forums but intill they are paid they can not reply. Why give out the information to people to help them do their build when they are not even supporting us. This can be done by going to the admin panel and making a group called "members" "paid Members" what ever you wanted it to be and making it a colour like green, orange etc then all the members that have paid for the year will go into this group giving them the forum privileges

I would like to work on setting up some Member only deals for buying from local shops and online such as ebay users to give club members a discount when buying online products.

    Regional “officers”
: Each region should have a Officer in charge of that area. This officer will act as membership dues holders for the area and with organization of local events. Meaning is a person would like to join they would get in contact with the officer of their region to set up there membership at the same time can get a t-shirt or other club apparel.

    “Club Swag”
t-shirts,  I know we got club shirts but getting them seams to be hard. This goes with my idea of the officers as they would be given x amount of them from who ever is sourcing them. On this note I would like to bring some new t-shirts to the club giving us the options to advertise the club abit more. We need to get our name out and get more people into the scene. We can also work on other items like hats and such.

    Site update
: Many my feel I was attacking ian on not having the site updated. This is not what I was trying to do, My point was that if he can not update it due to life things going on then he should let us help. I have experience is html and php.  If he gives me html access I could update the site for him but we need to have the “active” look for new wanting to join members…… I know must of us just jump to the forums when we come on but if you look at the page it has date’s from 2013, lets get some current stuff up.

    Facebook
: facebook is a great way to pull people in. I see we have a facebook page but it is a person profile, lets get a Advertising page up to help get us out there, I would love to do this if you like.

  • Stickers, I have a friend who dose graphics for a living and I could get stickers made. I would rep the club with a club sticker or tank related..... if you guys like the idea I can look into getting some things made... if some on has the vector of the main logo that would be helpful too

Well that’s everything that comes to mind right now. If some one else has more ideas to add please do.

PostSubject: Re: Ideas......   Fri May 06, 2016 8:45 pm

Its great to look things over once in a while and see if they can be improved.

I have been with the Can Am RC Tank Club since it began in 2010, and can say that most of these things were considered in the beginning and come up from time to time.

They would be nice to have but the administration is a challenge.

The concept of the club from the beginning was to have a simple set up that would place fewer demands on the individuals organizing it.

We are at Black Creek because we started in the Niagara Region.  Many of the original members left, over time, and the membership is now scattered from east of Toronto, to Windsor, to the few of us left in the Niagara Region.

It is difficult to secure an area where you can alter the ground, no one bothers it, has storage, building, wash rooms, and, as is very important these days, has liability insurance that we can operate under.  The full combo of these things are challenging to find.

In regards to;

Charging more for the membership; It was considered from 2010 - on.  It would mean collecting the surplus money over the amount needed for Black Creek, keeping it (opening a bank account?).  Once this happens, an executive and treasurer etc. are required to look after it and determined how it is spent.  If just one person looks after it, there are issues from folks just not agreeing on the expenditures, all the way to out & out abuse. (Not a nice assessment but it is based on 40 year of involvement with clubs).  Having an executive is tough enough when they are in the same town, our people as spread out.

Regional Officers; I am not sure what the regions would be, we are spread out all over the place and the membership changes.

Club Swag, this means someone has to try to determine what will sell, order it, keep stock, keep account of the cash and transport the material to meets and/or be involve with shipping it to buyers.  It sounds great in the beginning but I have seen, it is a lot of work and gets "old" quick for the one looking after it.

Web Site; I an set this up and he put no small amount of effort into it.  It is a commitment and sometimes folks just hit burnout, or have other issues.

I am all for bringing some of these things in, if there are enough keen people that are committed to them, and will stay with it (no one can guarantee that, either).  I can say with my other commitments/interests, I cannot promise the time to be involved at that level.  In 2010 I started into it, hoping to just help out and let others run things.  I was very diligent in keeping the grass cut at the field in the first 3 years, a weekly task in the height of the summer, but knee problems and an operation has cut into that to some extent, I just don't have the time and energy to do a lot beyond trying to keep the field in shape.

thank you glen for your calm and open mind, I can only stress my intentions are only to help and try to make things better... i come from car clubs making sites, forums, buying shirts selling etc. This is why i offer my help. I just wanted to have the club to be able to grow bigger maybe get more members per area.

i thank you for look at it as it is nothing more. A lot if members seam to be set in old ways and have no care to see change. THIS WAS ONLY SUGGESTIONS. You guys will stay as a small "group" unless you atleat listen and treat others as ones, we are all members here.

once again glen thank you

lol sorry just read it now Razz

i love to be apart of the club, many say i come off as a dick, and trust me i am not. I just care a lot of stuff i am involved with you can ask dean. To the ones that think i am just a pain in the butt or a dick feel free to say i would rather know who has a problem with me as a real man not hide behind the screen..

rather not stay where i am not wanted, as a younger person i have different views and that's all, but if people didn't talk about change where would we be now.

I am not a member currently but was one at one point so take this with a grain of salt.
I joined because it was a relaxed atmosphere to come battle some tanks and have fun, It turned into something else. I got sick of the crap/work and left the hobby
 * Only way I will make the 3 hour drives again is to see the people I count as mates and to have some friendly tank battles and chatter about building tanks *
my hobbies don't need structure, they need fun.
I am hoping next meet I make it, I'll pay the yearly dues for the day.
Sure do hope I get more than the one day out of my 25 bucks though

The club is veryyyy casual and I would wager most of the regulars are pretty ok with that. Of course every once in awhile myself and a handful of others get a sudden burst of motivation and crank out all sorts of creativity and gusto, or in Dean's case always being in Turbo mode keeping us going with him Wink

Come to a few meets and get a feel. We don't need to limit anyone's input on the forums, especially non-members who maybe have been long time readers non-time posters.

No worries bud , your a member as far I I'm concerned , I'm sure everybody feels the same , lol , I can't say much being a newbie, me and rugged paid our 25 each at end of November to stinger , but I'm assuming that's for the black creek fees , correct me anybody if I'm wrong , just like paying the fee at indoor events , my opinion is, if your a regular on the forum , show up at meets , pay accordingly to the person who organized an event , then your a member , especially the distance you travel bud , like strato said , it's casual.....
Good example, I come from 15 years of 8 lane slotcar racing , that for 6 seasons we raced from Windsor to Ottawa , Oakville , Niagara, toronto , different classes, had ton of fun , yes it was an organized deal, we paid our practice fee , plus entry, but with no club , just show up and race , well before next season starts, some racer decides to start a club , which is fine but now he wanted member fees for no reason , class changes , picking and choosing what tracks he or other people wanted to race at , because of low voltage, track maintenance , etc , cut down to 4 tracks instead of 8 left in ontario on the schedule , I myself raced a couple races here , but I went stateside to race , which was the downfall of slotcar racing here in ontario , it is now extinct , due to 1 or 2 guys that decided to make changes , this is just an example of what can happen , I think the odd meeting here and there would be ok, to keep us to stat , let's have fun

I have to admit when I first read the post it was like some one just kicked in the Club house door.
Valid suggestions some of which have been discussed in the past ( others like web updates need to be corrected to keep us looking active)>
As a result, board members and officers were established to help explore options.
The lure of a large American or European style clubs is tempting so these guys walk a thin line to keep everyone happy.

As for the current structure of the club I experienced a similar scenario as Jughead describes and now belong to a fun yet competitive slot car club with 7 members. This is also what attracted me to Can-Am in the first place where Tim, Glen. Frank, Ian, Wayne, Stince had the idea of getting together for a day of fun.

I guess the bigger question is what the members want this club to be.

I have an idea that I would like to share!

Tiger power, you idea is cool, but it wouldn't work in the long run!

If I was Dean or an admin here, I wouldn't even consider of charging a member a single dime for their membership fee!

I believe this idea will generate a sustainable revenue to keep up with the track maintenance and increase the size of this club in the years to come. We either "GO BIG" or "Go HOME"

Instead of bringing members across southern Ontario or Northern States to a specific location in a weekly or monthly bases to play in a secluded area. We should join up with other RC communities and host a major event that people will know about us! We want the world to know about us! We are not just deadbeats in the Northern Hemisphere!

First, we communicate with other RC forums such as RcCanada, Toronto Hobby Show, Metro Mariner modellers and etc. We need their supports because we want to host a big event together!

I believed within the RC community, we are able to host a convention altogether! Just like Anime north (a place for Otaku / fans that get together every year to cosplay and buy anime stuffs).

We can pick out 3-4 days in the summer montsh to arrange a place for the show!

If it is me, I will go for Air Canada centre, but I think the Toronto Congress Centre will do!

If we do sufficient advertisements in radio or TV, it can lure families, tourists to come and we charge them for admission fees. We will have food stands and hobby shops, and we can charge them rents, just like CNE (Canada National Exhibition place).

During the show, we can have tank battles, air shows (RC planes), off roading, on road cars, trucking, and model boats all at the same time! When adults and kids see these amazing toys, it will spark their interests of wanting to own or to play with them. This will generate a lot of business and helping the clubs to thrive.

Example, The Canadian Restaurant show (annual event) The reptile show, they make money and people knows about them!

We can make this HAPPEN!

As for raising money, or forking out the cash, we can go into those details as we progress! Very Happy

This is how we should make money and not gouging members for money! This is not a fantasy, it is not a dream, it is DOABLE!

Welcome to 2017 Toronto R/C Convention!

Currently, the membership fee goes to allowing us to use the field and facilities that we have been able to meet at since 2011.

Current fee is $25.00/year which pays for the use of the club, facilities, field which is ours to use and we operate under their insurance; I don't believe they are gouging us at $25.00/year/member for what they provide.

Well , like Glen says , the fees for membership apply to black creek , and we usually pay accordingly to indoor and other outdoor events , you'll have to come check us out first only to find out that were hobby enthusiasts, who enjoy the modeling and electronic aspects of rc tanking , you'll find a great bunch of people who are very helpful with good advise , and some of the members are known worldwide with their great talent , yes I'm a newbie over last few months , but I'm learning real fast due to good info and advice , the growing aspect of the club will come , no worries about that

I think the ACC may be a bit of a stretch. Last time I worked with CPI I think it was about $300000 for one night...

Go big or go home means very deep pockets. We actually have started in the last couple of years trying to do other events tied in. For example the weekend coming up in Oshawa Aquino Day which they are expecting 10,000 visitors over the weekend. Cost to our club? Zilch. You just have to pay the $20.00 admittance fee and come play for a day or the weekend...
