I posted this on a couple of forums. For those of you who don't know our National War Memorial to the unknown soldier looks like this:

And here is one of the most poignant comments without words that I have ever seen:

Take a moment please... FileOttawa Madness.jpg (61.7 KiB) Not viewed yet

Here is a brief description of the illustration:

His cartoon for Oct. 23 shows the bronze statues from the National War Memorial in Ottawa leaning down to comfort Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, who was shot and killed while standing guard at the memorial and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Wednesday morning.

MacKinnon said he was working on other cartoons Wednesday morning when "all hell" started breaking loose in Ottawa and his other ideas "became quite trivial by comparison."
He did several sketches and showed his editors, and everyone agreed on the one that eventually ran — of a First World War soldier leaning over Cirillo's body. Only the young soldier's feet — with red and white Argyll and Sutherland Highland socks — are visible.

RIP Nathan...

Strange that it's local to me and a few of my friends here in Hamilton. I met him a couple times but can't say I knew him really.

Feels different when you're even remotely connected to events like this..

On one hand there's a sense of outrage and anger for many people. On the other I hope this specific event doesn't lead to more extreme measures by both people with ill-intent or sinister motives, but also measures by the state that seem all to prevalent in this political atmosphere.

I know for sure though that he will be missed by a very large community here.
