I was thinking about the flag discussion that has been ongoing and have another idea.

I found a bunch of cheapppp disk magnets on Deal Extreme MAGNETS , the idea being that we buy a bunch and have everyone glue a magnet onto the inside of their turret or hull, wherever it's convenient.

We then just make a bunch of flags and epoxy them to another magnet. Bingo, easily attachable team flags that are both durable and paint-friendly.

If anyone thinks this is a good idea I can order hundreds.. we can even install them in the field.

Seems simple enough.  Good idea.

Works for me too! This will make things much easier on the battlefield for sure. Since I already have a bunch of these I will start doing it on my tanks immediately. Now, who has the flags???

I've got some coloured tape and wooden sticks but we would have to add magnets to them and that would be best done at a meet where we can orientate the magnets properly

How about we use epoxy to secure a antena wire to the magnet. This way the flag would be somewhat flexible.I'll make up a sample and report back .

I remember we had a bunch of flags made which were fine but I think the colours were earth brown and earth green and sorta blended together at a distance.. Razz

We can make them however we want, the orientation matters when you install them in the hull. I'll order a bunch, but really all anyone needs is 3 magnets and to make two flags.. lets just say red or blue.

I'll be simply epoxying some wire and going with that.

I like the idea of flags, but it's kind of tricky finding the right ones to use.

If they are too visible, then it makes it hard to hide behind buildings/trees and sneaking around. But if they are not visible enough then it won't make difference.
Might have to experiment to find the best solution.

Here are the results of my flag test . I took Strato50's magnet idea ,topher1266 's tape and made up a sample. I used the medium size rod magnet ,wound the antenna around and secured it with a small amount of epoxy. To Stince's point the flag height is low enough to " hide" and still visible to see across the battle field .
Many of my tanks have a wire antenna so the use of coloured electrical tape works great.Plus you can simply tape the " flag" at a set height for all tanks .

I like it. Easy enough to make and most of us have old antennas lying around. For anyone showing up on battleday that needs a magnet put in the hull we can do that on site no issue. I have lots of magnets and I'm sure other guys do too.

Should we have a vote to go with this plan and set a standard flag height? I am thinking 6" would work pretty good. We can do the flags on site as we will want them to be all the same for battles. I like the yellow and maybe if they have a blue? Anyone in the group colour blind? This would preclude red and green usually...

The flag idea would solve the problem of not having an even split of Allied/Axis when choosing teams for a battle, and would make it much easier to get set for a battle.

I haven't checked, would a 6" high flag on the rear deck be high enough not to block the various types of receivers?

Good point Glen. I think if the flag is reasonably sized it's not going to make a big difference in signal blocking. A small piece of paper flapping around in the wind / with the motion of the tank isn't, in my opinion, going to block a 1-second long IR burst. But it might! Razz

I'll whip up some prototypes here too. 6-8" will be fine and be visible even on the taller tanks.

Again these can go anywhere there is a suitable flat spot inside & outside the tank. Stick a slice of duct tape under the flag magnet too to protect your paint Smile
