After two months of waiting, the kit has finally arrived! IS3 from MK Modellbau. This will primarily be my winter project. As you can see in the pics, there will be a lot of trimming required! The kit is based on a HL KV1 lower. It deserves better than that so I got a Taigen metal lower. That will require quite a bit of modification as well. More to follow but it will be a while.
Cheers!

I built this kit two years ago...! It's really fantastic, and the metal KV1 hull works nicely with some extra work.

Maybe I'll post the build photos...

I found this vid. I'm guessing it is the same one.

Yeah. Connecticut is right over the next hill. ROTFL

Nice! I seem to recall another difference was the return rollers were.. slightly lower.. and slightly more forward? I'll have a look at my photos!

Nice wheel sets!

*EDIT*

Yea, slightly lower and forward!

I remember you mentioning that the return rollers had to be moved to allow track clearance. I consult your photos from time to time as well. Thanks.  thumbs up

While it was raining this weekend. I couldn't bash around with the Blizzard so I knuckled down and finished Cindy's crawler truck. I also got some more work done on the Pike.

Added a sheet of 1mm polystyrene to mount all the internals on. Used the paint hood for the first time. White on the inside with rattle can.

Hoping the return roller lasts... No worries about the road wheels since they only see one direction of loading and are on suspension arms..

Getting more done. Trying to do it right.

Made up some gearbox covers
The Russian Pike 1-29-210

Electronics layout mockup. Speakers on the way. One on each side of the smoker.
The Russian Pike 2-13-210

Cut a hole in the upper to let the smoker breathe. Man was that nerve racking!
The Russian Pike 2-4-2013

Decided to cut out all the louvers on the rear deck
The Russian Pike 2-5-2010

All cut out. That took a LONG time! Miraculously no cut fingers and only 2 minor breaks.
The Russian Pike 2-12-210

Underside of deck piece and upper hull primed and painted. Don't want the white resin visible once everything else is assembled and painted!
The Russian Pike 2-12-211

Rear deck pieces installed. There is a fine piece of mesh in between the hull and deck piece. Didn't get a pic of it as I almost forgot to put it in as I had the adhesive already on the deck.

Some more progress.

Installed speakers. Made up legs for them.
The Russian Pike 3-18-211

Installed proper hinges for the gearbox covers
The Russian Pike 3-18-210

Exhaust deflectors were poorly cast. Had to make new.
The Russian Pike 3-23-210The Russian Pike 3-23-211

Fuel tanks and rear fenders. Going for original IS3 look.
The Russian Pike 3-26-211

Built gun mantlet bracket.
The Russian Pike 3-26-210The Russian Pike 3-27-210

More nerve racking cutting to accommodate hinge bolts.
The Russian Pike 3-27-211

In place and epoxied in place. More secure hardware will hold it in place.

Not much progress. Been doing a lot of figuring out. Ordering parts, waiting for parts. Ordering tools, waiting for tools. A couple of trial and errors. You get the idea.

Starting with a full mock up.
The Russian Pike 3-30-210

Needed to make a bracket to give the resin strength for the barrel elevation.
The Russian Pike 4-28-210

Viola
The Russian Pike 5-5-2010

Decided to use a full size servo I had lying around. If it's not strong enough, it can always be upgraded.
The Russian Pike 5-5-2011

First op-rod/horn setup. I haven't made a bracket for the servo yet so I had to hold it. Still twisted the parts right off. I don't have access to tig so I tried just using the mig. Wrong
The Russian Pike 5-7-2010

A good working setup. Barrel goes up and down. Ran two screws through the back then welded the rod to them. I'll probably make another one that isn't so ugly. Now for that bracket. And recoil. And.......... thumbs up
The Russian Pike 5-12-210

Christ Chris... You shoulda sent me that front mantlet… I woulda 3D modelled it for you, printed it, and sent the whole lot back to you. (The other Parts look good BTW...)

What elevation range are you looking for? Aka angles of depression/elevation?
