Does that have suspension on it? This picture doesn't look like it has much in the way of clearance in the wheel wells.

Yeah the stock spring is really week. There is a piston with o ring so maybe I am suppose to put in damper oil ? I will start looking for replacement spring.

Does it make sense that there is a spring even with dampers ?

Hmmm going back thru the instructions and thinking back I might have F up the horizontal torsion bar....... I thought it was only decorative at that point but now that seeing how weak the springs are it must be the problem.

Time to take one apart and see !

Despite the threat of having to rebuild the lower, I forged ahead with the upper and the electronics. So here is the mock-up and all tested out. Very impress with the turret mechanicals. Just in the time for the de-construction (of the lower).

Looking much better. Apparently I have put it together with the horizontal torsion bar suspension at the lowest setting which is basically nothing. Basically have to take it apart to reset it but not it is done.

Now encounter an interesting problem with the BEC for the heavy duty servos. The one that comes with the kit has two output for two servos but only one input. The issue is with the usual 8x8 steering, the rear sets of 2 axles usually goes the opposing direction of the front to aid in steering.

So now either I have to take one servo off the BEC, or I have to put in a signal reverser for the rear servo. Most signal reserver are rated for 6v and the BEC is giving out 7.4v so we will see.

Assuming Front and rear Servos are the same direction (aka not reversed to each other).

Servos turn Clockwise.
Front Servo - Turn Right
Rear Servo - Turn Right

What BEC do you have in that thing currently? Any specifics? Is that what is the green board in the above image?

Suspension looks much better!
I am not sure how this BEC is set up. Most BEC's only route the power. Your signal still comes from the receiver. For my IS3, I have the servos in the turret run off a 10A Castle BEC. This BEC comes right off the battery harness. The signal wire still comes from the control board output pin.
Have you powered it up yet?
Is it possible that the BEC with your kit has the reversing built in?

Big Mike. Thanks for that. I agree that you got it correct. If this is the same, I circled the steering servos and linkage in yellow. I circled the shift servo in orange.

Interestingly enough the green patch board is not the BEC. The metal box in the middle of the picture is the BEC and it does provide power for two servos, but then they tell me to route those power (combined to a single input) to the green patch board, which has 4 I/O. 1 is to take the single power input from the BEC, 2. is to take a single signal input from the receiver, 3. is two output labelled fan, and 4 is two output to the servos.

As per Chris, I can in theory do without the green patch board and just take the two power out from the BEC directly to the servos and have the two signal only going back into the receiver. I like this set-up better anyway since I can adjust the trim on the two servos seprately. Even with a signal reverser bolted into the current set-up, I cannot independently adjust the trim on individual servos.

Ahh That is the steering gear distribution board for the BC8 by Cross. It does not have separate servo connections or reversing.

You could always put the 2nd servo into an extra Channel and then link that channel (and invert it) to the steering channel.

Yes that's what I did when I took the BCE out altogether and wanted two separate control, but then the damn light dims when I turn so I figure I better put the BCE back in........ And so it begins, my 1/12 BTR-82A (Aka CrossRC BT-8) Build - Page 2 1f600

That is why you need the glitch buster.
If using the BEC to power the servoes directly. Make sure to run from BEC to servo w/o the signal wires and run a ground (not required, but recommended) and signal wire from the servo to the receiver.

Thanks Mike. If a signal reverser worked I will just leave it stock hook-up.

I have been looking I guess most 8x8 has mechanism to either disable the rear 4 wheels so they just go straight, or opposing from the front 4 to aid in turning or inline with the front 4 to "crab" walk.

Well the reverser works like a charm and now everything is up an running. I have also put in the clear water proof panel. That whole compartment is sealed but basically everything in there is supposed to be water proof (servos, BEC, ESCs and belt drive system). The only thing might be a problem is the little BCE patch board and the reverser but there are sitting near the top so unless there is an inch of water in there it should be fine. By then the motor would be shot too anyway, but splash here and drops there is not going to be disastrous.  (Also just realized that the rear steering servo is also tied to the two small rudder so will have to figure out what that means another day).

Very nice! Those motors would probably work under water as well. If you are concerned about waterproofing the boards, you could spray a conformal coating on them. That's what I use for my receivers and other electronics for my crawlers. I build them to identify as submarines. Ha haa.

Crawlers for sure need to be submarine like ! Mine is not seeing water soon but when it does it will be in the pool, so will have to be seriously ready.

Servo creep from the reverser. Back to square one and will patch the BEC directly into the servos and do a separate control on each of the steering servo.

Yeah... Best bet is to hook up the 2nd servo to another channel and then tie that channel in with the steering (just reversed). So you can trim it separately as well.

Need some advice here......... Thinking about patching in the BEC.

Can I just take a normal Y servo splt and nip the red coming in and you have a BEC adapter ? the signal is still connected(doesn't matter to the BCE since there is no connection), the red is connected between the two split (from the existing Y), and the black is all connected still (no change).

Like this ? Seems really simple and elegant but never thought about it or am I missing something ?
